I prefer recording 2 the most, then 7 or 4 next depending on what I might prefer in a mix.

I don't really dislike any of them.

EMGs...grrr...you still had to have clipping before the amp, didn't you... :)

(edit) This is without reamping, and you're making excuses for "bad playing"? I just put a few tracks side-by-side and listened to them, and they're nearly dead on. You're being too hard on yourself.
I preferred 2 as well...followed by 4 I'm thinking.

Again, thank you for being so cool as to do something such as this. Really above and beyond.

Like any shootout, a negative result doesn't really indicate a bad piece of gear, and considering there were so many amps to demo, I am surprised that there weren't a handful of amps that sounded completely left field. With that said, I will give my opinions on the clips, honest opinions.

Amp 1 - Nice, but definitely a lacking of low mids in the 150-350Hz range and too much sub-lows. Good note articulation and a nice grind otherwise.
Amp 2 - Sounds smooth, but a bit dull. Lacks power.
Amp 3 - Slight crackling sound on the chords and chunks.
Amp 4 - A nice forward sound, would really dominate the sound spectrum if it weren't for the low end being a tad boomy. Easily fixed with Post-EQ.
Amp 5 - Very scooped sounding, I like scooped sounds, but this is unpleasantly so. Sub-lows are overbearing and uncontrolled sounding. Great lead sound though.
Amp 6 - Boxy and oversaturated sounding. Lacking in definition. Like an amp that wasn't made for metal trying to do metal.
Amp 7 - Fizz, but otherwise a balanced and pleasant sound. Again, an easy fix with Post-EQ.
Amp 8 - Weird mids. Farty sounding on the chunks.
Amp 9 - A very nice and round sound that would sound great in a full band mix.
Amp 10 - A little buried sounding, sounds like the wrong frequency ranges are accentuated. Again a slight crackling on the chunks.
Amp 11 - Nice and warm sounding. Would make a great blending amp.

I think out of all of them, I thought that Amp 9 was my favorite and made a great base tone. From listening to the rest I was thinking of EQ changes that would be beneficial, but none of them were inherently bad tones, just needed a little love.

Is this an additon to the amp shootout I spent my morning listening too???

Or is this a brand new gig???

Here we go - off to DL all the clips, grab my eargoggles and get back at it...

Wicked!!

I liked them all, except 4. It had lots of overtones on the open notes, but I didn't like how much sag it had.
11 sounds like old Megadeth and I liked how open and bright it was.
I liked them all and they were all definitely usable. I'd say that 11 and 2 were my favorites. I didn't like 7 as much as some people. I would guess that's the Diezel because it sounded the most polished and compressed.

All new test. The other test had some other things in the chain so this time it was just guitar straight into amp.

So is the Nitro amp 1 or does the list not correspond to the clips?

My favorite is 1 followed by 9, 7, and 4 in that order. It gets hard for me to put them in order after that   I'm super curious to find out which are which. Nice job too, thanks for the clips

So far my top 2 are #6 and #10, like that voicing a little better, they both sound reallly full. Just #6 could use a boost to tighten it up, maybe both.

Awesome job dude!

I'm partial to 1 and 8 as I feel they held together the best during the chug parts. #1 being my favorite of them all.

Well, I managed to really dissect your last SM57 DI test - it was awesome... Glad the Makoplex came out where it did.

This one sounds awesome - and your playing is terrific. I noticed with all teh clips, the chugga chugga versus the legato style solo at the end are almost 2 separate parts. Some of the chugga parts were awesome, where the solo sounded less appealing. Some of the solo parts had awesome percussiveness to them while their respective chugga chugga parts were less than desireable.

This'll be a hard one to say "these are my Top 3", but I'm gonna try!! Awesome work - again, thanks!!!

V.

All sound good but noticed that one amp that everyone loved on the boosted test, the nitro, doesn't sound as good with out the boost and came in towards the last position to alot of peeps.

Lol. I picked the Nitro last and I love that amp. I generally don't play it with a boost either.

Is yours with Kt88's. I noticed that the el34 nitro without a boost can sound a little stringy at times but with a boost its awesome.
