Cool! Based on my blind findings, I liked Peters>Mako>Nitro & Krank>Mark IV

I'll have to check out the Peters! The rest of the results make sense; love Mako amps, neutral about Splawn & Krank, and the Mark IV sounded 6L6 (I think) - not my preference for this kind of tone.

I know a couple people mentioned the reamping part being a problem but I must say that I have done a lot of test and with reamping you only lose about 2% of tone rather then just plugging straight in.

Even if that were the case, and it's possible, that wasn't my point. It's about when you play the amp itself, how it responds, that affects how you play the amp. :) Playing the amp differently yields different sounds. That's why we like electric guitar so much, the fact our playing can influence the sound. If you don't play the amp, you don't get that reaction and can't explore the differences.

It doesn't mean you can't tell something about the sound when you reamp. I still think it's a valid tool. But, it has its limits. And if I can't tell a Gryphon among these amps--some of which I know very well--then that says something.

Gah, had the peters and Splawn backwards...kidna figured after listening to the 57 clips.

I like them in this order

3
5
1
2
4

I have no ideal what amp is what :confused:

By the way I like these blind test

Thanks for doing it

:lol: :LOL: That's exactly what order I liked them in with only the 57. Never heard a Peters in person, I'd like to check one out now though :D I'm suprised the MarkIV sounded so boomy :confused:

I still have no idea which amp is which. :)
You can't tell apart your own amp? :D

Now what kind of a guru are you, anyway?
:lol: :LOL:

Love the reference!

So when do we find out which amp is which?

That's why amp shootouts don't prove to me which amp I would buy. Clips don't tell you how the amp's gain feels to play on it...but a shootout like this does tell you something.

Amp1= Nitro = 7 votes
Amp2= Mako = 2 votes
Amp3= Peters = 5 votes
Amp4= MarkIV = 7 votes
Amp5= Krank = 4 votes

I only mention the above after noticing that 3 people held back their votes for Peters until after the results were announced....

I liked the Peters, but that was a dick move.

James--looks like your amp is coming out on top :rock: I must say your amp is built like a ferrari and Im now dying to try a Hydra.

I full on agree with you on the reamping thing. I actually have more of an old school mentality and think most of the tone is in the players hands.

Looks like I might have some time today and will try to play the amps straight (no reamp no boost) and post those clips!

I like 4 and 3. . . .5 wasn't bad either. With my track record I picked the cheapest of the bunch. I will relisten in my headphones tonight and maybe change my mind........or not. It really means nothing because I ultimately base my decision on a live mix. :)

Wow, I actually picked the Peters and the Mark (considering I own a Hydra). It's a freakin miracle. :D Of course I also picked the cheapest of the bunch just like I said I would too...bringing up the rear.. :lol: :LOL:

Let me guess......you own a Mako?

Just fuckin with you dude. Yes, that was kind of cheap to vote after the fact. At least glassjaw7 said he liked the Peters without even knowing what the hell amp was what. :lol: :LOL:

Yeah I agree, that was a pretty douchey move. Not that I have anything against the Peters since I voted for it first day before yesterday before the 57 clips were even posted :D :thumbsup: .

Just goes to show that the OP did the right thing by not telling which amp was which at the start because this would have been a totally different outcome. I guarantee the Mako would've gotten more votes than the Krank if people would've known which was which, RT is a non-Krank zone :lol: :LOL:

The amps in the mix all sounded good and very similar it was really a shot in the dark to pick one at least for me...
With the raw 57 clips no backing track I was able to pick out some differences and allowing me to form an opinion.

I'll have to listen again now that I know what they are and see if that sways me. lol. I didn't vote before because they all sounded the same to me and there wasn't an all of the above selection.

EDIT: Yep. I like Nitro and Mark the best. Big surprise considering I own both. :scared: :D :lol: :LOL:

OK GUYS So right now I am recording clips of all the amps again plus an Einy, Slo, Herb and more. This time around NO REAMPING and NO BOOST.

So should we do this blind again? Should I start a new post with a new poll?
