Sorry for the delay guys. Ok so here's just the 57 mic with no EQ for you guys to check out.

I totally understand "they sound alike" comments as I can hear how you guys would say that. But, at the same time, I do hear a difference in them and maybe when I post the results you guys will lock in on a little more of the personalities of the amps.

I threw up a good heavy tone that I like and tried to match that tone. I didn't just turn the amps on and push record. Thats part of the reason the amps have a common flavor.

I also agree that cab and mic (even mic position) can change the sound most times more then the amp (well good amps anyways).

This was just for fun and most times hate these things because people get biased about their gear and if the test was exact. I'm just doing for fun because I'm on the market for a killer metal amp. I have my marshall territory covered and here's the amps I won't be selling. Budda SD80, Marshall JCM800 Friedman, Marshall JMP Super Lead Friedman, 5150, Splawn Quickrod and a Vox AC15.

Ahhh I just got an Einstein in to try out

The differences are a lot more evident now.

I'm still going with #4. I like it's midrange.

I agree with the general consensus. They all sound so similar it doesn't even matter with the backing track.

In the second round with the 57 I hear some subtle differences (still pretty similar IMO - PC speakers) and am not sure which I like "best" but there's a low end rumble on 4 and 5 I don't care much for. Ah heck, I'll just go with #1...

I like them in this order

3
5
1
2
4

I have no ideal what amp is what

By the way I like these blind test

Thanks for doing it

You ROCK Braddah!!! I'll be slappin' the eargoggles on later tonight to take these naked re-takes for a test drive and figure 'em all out. I can't wait!!! :D

But!! There's ALWAYS a BUT!!!!!

I skied all day today and need to catch up on work first and foremost :aww:

This is gonna be awesome... Dime, I see you've noted the tendency of #1 to be the Makoplex as well - interesting. Hey, no hijack here but guess what came via UPS today????

Yep. Brand spankin - Mako Mak 4 - haven't even opened the box yet ;)

V.

I still say #3 but, #1 does sound better recorded with the 57 :dunno:

Shit, with those clips I gotta change my guess: Also, I think I like #5 the best now :) I'm not a huge fan of #4 at all, otherwise they were all good!

1) Mako
2) Mesa
3) Splawn
4) Krank
5) Peters

Btw, I think I like them in that exact order now with the 57 clips and no backing.

I was able to hear enough of a difference to form an opinion with the new 57 clips

I changed my mind after the second round, and now have an order
3
2
1
4
5
for me anyway.

You can't tell apart your own amp? :D

Now what kind of a guru are you, anyway?

A "guru" who can't hear through reamping plus a boost pedal.

Here are my new guesses on the non-eq versions :D

1 - Mesa
2 - Krank
3 - Gryphon
4 - Nitro
5 - Mako

Love the reference!

So when do we find out which amp is which?

Sound like the OP dialed in the amps to sound relatively similarly. I know when I reamp through 5 different amps, they don't sound anywhere near THAT close, and if they did, I'd sell 4 and keep one   ;)

Are you also compressing the guitar tracks in the mix, perhaps multiband?

No comp.

Those last 57 clips I posted are raw, no eq no nothing.

The mix clips do have a blend of 57/121 and a little eq

I know a couple people mentioned the reamping part being a problem but I must say that I have done a lot of test and with reamping you only lose about 2% of tone rather then just plugging straight in. All tracks were reamped so I don't think the reamping comes into question. I have even seen other shoot outs were they play different riffs into the amps and I think I would rather hear the same track piped threw the amps to have a fair comparison. But to each their own.
