You can pick if you want to accept reverb payments or paypal only when you set up your shop. I just confirmed both options are still available in my shop settings as well.

If you accept reverb payments, payment will be released to your bank acct. once you post tracking. Think of it this way, reverb payments is a transactional system similar to escrow. This way buyer and seller are protected, seller gets no money until evidence "something" has shipped is entered into the system so buyer is protected in that they paid for "something". Seller is protected because now their is a transaction record that they "shipped" "something". As with all transactional systems, the system has to have a prompt to take an action. Posting tracking is the prompt that "shipping" has occurred and funds can be released. Dont post tracking and you are waiting, whether you already shipped or not, cus reverb didnt get the tracking transaction it was expecting in order to release funds.
No you can not use paypal as an option for accepting payments. That's why I posted the thread. Forced to accept reverb only. Posted and sold many times on reverb with paypal. Now you can only purchase thru paypal, and only be paid by reverb. And i just had this validated by reverb support over the phone. " Any new accounts are not able to use paypal as an option to receive payment"*. Bitchin session is now complete lol

Well that's easy then.

Preferred sellers are restricted to only accepting Reverb payments. Standard sellers may accept PayPal as well.

I went into my preferences and selected the option to accept Reverb Payment as well as Paypal.
I had a buyer wish to use Afirm. The notices I got from reverb were misleading just like you are stating. My buyer paid through affirm. I then got emails stating I would not get payment until it delivered for the first time only.
I uploaded tracking and made sure it got scanned at pickup. The next day I noticed I had the amount in Reverb bucks. I was able to transfer from there to my account.

you certainly can go to edit my shop and there should be an option in there to do Reverb payments or PayPal only. Also you're probably reading old documentation payment is put into your account as soon as you put in the tracking information not when it's delivered

You can’t choose PayPal as a payment option if you are what Reverb calls a “Preferred Seller”.

That's not true. You can't choose PayPal only. PayPal is always a payment option. If you want to only accept PayPal then you cannot be a preferred seller. If you want to accept PayPal as well as credit cards, affirm, reverb bucks etc then you select the other option.

Right, I meant to type “choose to accept only”.

Gotcha. It's also worth noting that when you choose Reverb payments as the option Reverb becomes the seller so any PayPal disputes from a buyer go through them so you get an extra layer of protection from scammers because we all know PayPal isn't going to do a damn thing to help you in that situation.

Yep, exactly. Back in the mid 2000's, I was selling and buying gear and just seemed like there was always some kind of crap that would go wrong and it would vary.

I'm probably better off not buying and selling like I was anyway. I wasn't appreciating what gear I had.

I recently drove 2 hours each way to a Mom and Pop store to pick up a guitar. Was the most positive and wonderful experience I've had buying gear since probably the 80s. Woke up early and jumped in the car and had a nice drive with a cup of coffee in the cup holder, listening to music. Got to the store and the guys were super cool. Tried out a bunch of gear and talked shop with them, etc. Then they got the guitar out and threw a new set of strings on there without charging me. I decided that day that I'm better off going into a place and taking in the whole experience. Can't always work that way, but when it does I want to do it like that.

You are correct on this, and I was able to do so previously as well. However that is grandfathered in and new accounts are reverb payments only, started a couple months ago according to reverb support. All new accounts must use reverb payments was what I was told

I personally don't see what the problem is. You agree to all of this when you use their service. Nobody is forcing you to use it.

Reverb does suck, but I sold all my shit in minutes yesterday on there. I got the typical 50% low-ball but I raised my price $250 over what I had it listed for here and got an offer over what I had it posted for here.

Yeah, waiting to get paid does suck but it sold and I profited $$$$+ in 3 days from when I bought the amp to when I sold it, so waiting to get it sold elsewhere is tit for tat IMO..

Its surprising you come in and read and post yet you hate the threads.. kind of like titty bars. Dont like it dont go in, of course I guess you know that already and your bored so trolling is fun
