This was my first amp head. Before that I was all about preamps. I sold some stuff and got the head then my mom bought me the matching cab a month or two later. This is when it first came out and it got me away from using pedals. I had a Gibson Lp studio going into the Marshall valvestate half stack and I was a happy boy.
I played several shows with it and it always sounded better than everyone else's amps those days. Everyone was using old Peavey combos or crates then. My friend wanted to use my amp for a show we played with them and they were a punk band and he bitched that it sounded too metal. I almost unplugged him from my amp back into his gorilla amp or whatever piece of shit he was using back then. It was just a great amp that was affordable.
That was the first big amp that I ever bought for myself. Tried it out in the store right next to a JCM900 of some type. In my noob tone ways back then, the 8100 and the cheaper 4X12 that came with it won out over the 1960A and JCM900. Four years later and I sold it to buy a brand new T-verb half stack. That was an eye opening change!
