Ironically, this thread contradicts the wish to have productive Rig discussions

I disagree. I think this IS a productive discussion.

My take is this...

Some of the most outspoken former members are not here anymore and they posted a ton...Unfortunately allot of it was gay humor (not that I care who is buggering who but it got old quick) or antagonistic towards other members.

Yes, "many men" had heard enough of the old and tired material being spouted off on a daily basis by those "cruising" the forum.

I have not banned more than 5 people in my tenure here, as its not my style but some people need to make a dramatic exit and or request to have their accounts deleted and I don't ever argue with a request to do so. I am not going to chase anyone to stay.

And we're better off for you taking this approach. I'm sure most of use learned DECADES ago that you don't want a friend you need to "chase" all the time to hang out with. If someone doesn't want to be around, good riddance to ya!

I get people like the drama and miss some of the bomb throwers. We actually have more members than ever but more lurkers than regulars. I do the best I can with my limited tech skills and best judgement. Who knows maybe I should of went the route of Gear Page and charged everyone to be here as a supporting member or some other type of arrangement so I didn't need to promote my guitar shop which is my only gig. Allot of people seem to think I am rich or have some kind of family wealth and thats just not true at all.

Steer clear of that pathetic Cameron thread over at HCAF. Everyone seems to think you were born with a silver spoon in your, er......mouth. ;)

My wife works as do I and I get up everyday drop by daughter off at school and go to work just like most of you. I am doing what interests me and its not always easy but I for the most part enjoy it. I don't hide, I don't freak out when people post negative things about me as I realize they don't know me and 9 out of 10 of them wouldn't say it to me if they met me.

Hell if you put 10 people together you get a realty show with wildly varying personalities, try doing it with over 10,000 people on a forum. You do the best you can... I appreciate the membership and I hope you enjoy stopping by here on Rig-Talk.

FWIW, I used to hang out at HCAF. Then one day, I stumbled across RT for exactly the reason Rez outlined: I Googled a product and it directed me to about a dozen threads at RT. There is a TON of knowledge available on this site, as well as many very informed and magnanimous forum members. HCAF is fun for a laugh, but it's a joke of a forum for technical purposes. When I joined RT in 2009, I stopped going to HCAF for quite a while. I recently went back a few weeks ago for the first time in over a year, and have again realized that it is not a place for individuals looking to have an intelligent conversation.

well, unless she's mastered her kegel exercises!

the three I go to , all are down some so I thinks its just cause its spring? Normal ebb and flow ? WHo cares, still the best one going. its been nothing but beneficial to me, new friends/customers/business acqauintences etc. Pretty much a pro forum. I like it.

I am not suggesting more drama, just the opposite. I have read several threads that started out good and someone would start the attacks on you or the guys out in LA. They were not direct but anyone could see what the poster was saying. It's ok here and there but after time it gets old. There is no easy way to address this, perhaps ignoring it is the best thing to do. I have suspicions why this happens (other than some people are just jags), but i do not know an easy way to clean it up. I am not worried about content, it tends to go up and down with time.

Came to rig talk for the Diezel forum but stayed because of all the great info and knowledge that is available. Made some friends and have spent too much money on gear I wasn't even hip to before I showed up.
I think the archive of knowledge and info here is pretty amazing , the search function is probably answering so many questions all day. Do a search about a piece
Of gear on google and rig-talk will undoubtedly pop up in the first page of results.

This definitely. This place is a vault of information, i know i have contributed alot over the years and so has everyone else. No rock left un-turned

I have some thoughts on this and will post them later. To me, Rig Talk is a shadow of its former self. I'm not talking about actual numbers of visitors, because I have no idea on that info. Just excitement and interaction are way down.

I'm thinking, most of the original RT crew have been on forums since the early days of HC, and have been playing w/ gear goodies for a way longer time than that, and aren't searching for the "secrets" anymore-- as most of those secret codes are indeed cracked, which definitely affects excitement.

The LeTekro BF-2 secret gave me the final piece of knowledge that I sought...there's nothing left for me now :aww:

This is pretty close to what I was thinking, there's not much that's truly "new" in the gear world and I think most that have been around here for a while have done enough whoring to know what they like and have said their piece. It seems like there's nothing really new to talk about unless you enjoy the same recycled EVH or Marshall talk.

You can only have so many opinions to post on the same subjects before you sound like a broken record and don't feel like posting the same thing again

I agree. Also I think the way it was back then with the insane gear flipping and posting New "_____" Day posts made it more fun for some. New builders on the scene with stuff to try that was easier to move etc. That's has changed a great deal. The economy is different and it wouldn't surprise me some guys were up to their eyeballs in debt. So IMHO people grow and move on. That's my view on it.

Good old Ralphie , revealed that bit of info to me too.

I am almost done w/ "my" personal guitar gear grail. Just a few more pieces of gear and it's complete. Then I will likely transition into the home recording side of things (TOTAL noob) to that side of the equation.

Of course, there will always be a guitar and/or amp to be had.

As much as there are a few things that I hate about R-T it's still a hundred times better than the alternatives namely hc and tgp.

I was an old HC guy from late 90's or 2000 (griffstrat). I came across Rig-Talk a couple years ago. That's why I was pumped to see Bob Savage on here recently because I remembered him from back in the day (along with John Oh "who still irritates me"...haha). There is definately a ton of usefull info and reviews on amps/gear here on RT. Lately I've been surfing the other sites and just needed a break because of all the recent "Cameron" crap (from the top to the bottom) over the past 6 months.

Even though we (Luxxtone) have a sub forum here, I think that having a general Guitar or Amp section would be better. Or even just allowing it in the main forum. I never look at the Diezel or DAR or Suhr, etc. sub forums - but if I see a Diezel thread in the main forum I will almost always check it out. Same with the other manufactures. I know if I post pics of a new build in the sub forum it will get 12 hits. If I do it in the main forum it will get 100s of views. Not having sub forums would create more action in the main forum so things wouldn't seem as slow.

just my 2 cents.
