Thanks for the info, I figured that was the case. I used to run a maximizer with my old Dual Recto when I still had it and it was really touchy, either thin or boomy, but if you found the sweet spot it (to use your description) really did make that thing jump to life.

How is the loop in general on the KR7, have you tried any effects with it?

The loop has an adjustable SEND AND RETURN. Its really touchy.
I only tried the Maximizer in it.
Only had the amp a week and played it for 2 nights.
I am really liking the Plug and play tone on this amp and might just leave well enough alone!
It is the best amp that has came across my cab. Period.
Never thought I would say those words!
I always look for the next best amp.....but think its been found.
Cant believe more people dont rock on these Bad ass Machines!

Oh well.......I GOT MINE! :D

I read your review dozens of times before I got this one.
You are SPOT ON with this amp.
This is my BEST AMP ever hands down! And I have owned damn near everything out in the Market.
Oh well....its here to stay.

If you guys get a chance.....check one out. Tricky to dial in since so many freaking options......but you will be glad you did.

I know what you mean, The KR7/KR100 amps are the "Road Kings" of Rivera, the K-Tre' is more straight forward.

I read where the KR7 was voiced 'slightly' different by Mick Thompson.
Either way its a great amp. We dont play Slipknot music but alot of 80's metal up to Lamb of god and this thing sounds excellent at all them.
Hard to describe but its HUGE sounding and not COMPRESSED like my Engl was.
Guess better mids?

Congrats on the Rivera! I have both the KR100 and K-Tre w/Reverb, so needless to say, I'm a fan

Can the kr100/Kr7 pull off the gain of the ktre?

I think it's the k tre and then some.
If you can snag one do it man

Cool man. My only experience with Rivera is the Kr7.
Like to hear what you think of the new amp.
I am sure its gonna be thick and brutal.

You got me thinking about Riveras again. I had a K Tre combo a while back. Never really bonded with it. I'll have to give them a look at NAMM.

I see thar the Kr7 is back for sale.
Really reminds me of the vht ultra lead.

I called Rivera to get the skinny on the difference on KR7 and KR100 ... they told me mids n bottom end are tweaked diff on KR7 to Mick Thompson specs, thats it.

I played the Ktre at sweetwater at stage volumes, thru 4 diff cabs, w 6 diff guitars and 3 diff players. yes clean is remarkable but its all about the blazing gain.
the cabs really impacted the head, and the friedman 4x12 loaded w v30s just ripped your mother F**King Face clear off ! the gain is smooth, easy to rip leads on as well, bottom was tight ZERO FLUB, mids cut amazing, I love how far the EQ goes , it really changes thru the full spectrum, Notes were all transparent when chords were played...Were as some amps to me is Bright or Dark the Eq never seams to go the mile.

Some Amps you fight, and yea everyone is different player and the fight might not be the same, but you know how some amps just are a battle to play n gel with.
Zero fight w the Ktre

we jammed thru many other high end amps there, but over n over kept coming back to the Rivera, first time ive ever played or heard one up close, haha they really are fkn NINJA AMPS, you hear about em, but never see them.

only ONE AMP through many years of buying, trading, borrowing and selling amps stuck out like that Rivera, that was Herbert. ya I'm guilty of the immediate boner of a new amp sometimes but as ya look back its like a cheap whore on a fun ride. And they all went packing, I had Herbert for almost 10 years, but sold it to a friend... just to see if there is another holy grail possible...

Now I just hope the KR100 holds up to the K-Tre.... I went for the Big Dawg, but it all comes down to that one tone! The Ktre was that good !

Nice! Rivera's are criminally underrated amps. Used they remind me of VHT/Fryette, in that you can get smokin deals on a great boutique amp. Had a TBR 1SL, great amp with a ton of tonal possibilities. Killer high gain, takes boosts well and of course the best clean channel on a high gain amp... Or top five at least. Enjoy!

Good review pretty much what I got from it.

More power to you but I played a kr7 in San Diego today on vacation. I thought the clean channel was cool. But the high gains sounded like complete mud. Maybe I was doing something wrong. I also hated the low gain Pubster I played awhile back. Today turned me off of Rivera for good.
Where'd you fnd a KR7 at? I don't live in SD anymore sadly, but I am curious.

Hope you're enjoying your vacation. I miss San Diego :(

Oh yeah for sure...I still have a TBR 1SL and an M60...both are absurdly underrated. I think I got the M60 for $400?

When I talked to Rich @ Rivera that's pretty much the sum of it (KR100 vs KR7). The difference between the two isn't the same as between the KR100/KR7 vs K-Tre. I love my KR100 and haven't had any desire to part with it in the past 8 years. It's been great. I was thinking about adding a KR7 to my arsenal (as there was a used one for sale a couple of hours away at the time) but chose to pass on it and hope to add a K-Tre instead just for something a tad different. I really want to run my KR100 with a K-Tre!

The K-Tre is an absolute BEAST of an amp. When I was trialing it against the KR100 (which I ended up buying) it was a tough call. The KR100 ultimately won (for me) for the extra options for tweaking and that it was MIDI controllable. The cabinet really does make a difference. I didn't like them going through Orange's or oversized cabs (Mesa's or Randall's). The Rivera cabs compliment them so well. Rivera's really are under rated. Great build and the customer service is top notch.
