Sold a Rev E Dual Rectifier to someone from Reverb, Amp was perfectly working fine when it left here. Packaged like a champ.
Gets there, guy is real happy. Gushes about the tonez.

3 days later, wants me to send him a quad of tubes because he thinks they are glowing too hot.
what do you do here?

First, report it to Reverb. They will argue on your behalf.
Second, tell buyer to go fuck himself and maybe take up a new hobby or play Pokemon. He doesn't need to be buying gear.
Change your Reverb settings to make all sales final, sold as is. Tubes not covered.

I've sold 3 amps in three days

An orange rocker 30 for 700. Even

Vox ac4tv for 200. Even

Reeves custom 50 for 1500. Even.

What's the problem now.

All on Craigslist.

well, thanks for all the advice. buyer paid PP Gift outside of Reverb. So , I'm not worried about a transaction reversal. I wrote him an email saying I would get him a quad of tubes if it would put the situation to bed. Never heard back. oh well.

IMO,that was a perfect and generous move on your part. You didn't have to,but you did.

So let me get this straight. In your first post you tell everyone that you sold the amp on REVERB and the guy liked it but then a few days later the tubes got hot and is asking for new ones.

Then after everyone gives you advice on what to do, you give us your second post with more interesting information. That you used Reverb as your advertising medium to sell that amp outside of Reverb. You somehow duped the buyer into buying outside Reverb with Paypal gift no less.

Obviously no rules applied in this transaction and therefore it's his own fault for buying an amp with paypal gift when he could have just bought it on Reverb and had some protection.

Yeah that guy is a fool. Or just very trusting?

I would never PayPal gift anyone ever I knew them personally. Either way like RottingCorpse said that was pretty fair offering up a new quad. Kind of BS but I would rather do that than take the amp back.

"Hi.....I bought this car from you 3 days ago. Love it!!
But now I got a flat tire. What the hell man?"

You not going to offer a new quad of tires?

:hys:

My thing on amps is this. Anything can go wrong anytime. New or used. When the guy got it.....amp worked fine.
So Reza didnt screw him in my opinion. Its not like he is a fortune teller and could predict a tube would go bad.
Like others above said. I expect to play it and when the tubes go I will buy new ones. So pretty much I want new glass in the amp right away anyhow.

Same thing here....
"Hi....I bought a guitar from you 3 days ago. Love it!
But the high E string broke today.. What the fuck man?"

At this point you went above and beyond what 99% of the sellers would offer and you did not hear back from him. I had a situation where I shipped a pedal to a guy and it came back to me as no such number/address. I sent it to the address he had listed on PP. I tried to contact him daily for a week. I called eBay, Paypal on a direction on what to do and in the end....the guy just vanished :dunno:. On top of that, I attempted a refund through paypal and it would not let me. Anyway...I did not mean to hijack the thread.

there are many sheisters out there. I was surprised to discover that fellow musicians were so willing to screw other people over. I have had to deal with sheisters a couple times, and it was a bummer. It just blows your mind that one musician would do this kind of thing to another, and because of paypal rules, you get screwed.

tell him to send the old tubes back to you.

you will check em and send him another set of working tubes

I have a digital tube tester and test all tubes before sending/selling an amp.

If the tubes aren't good, send them back to me and I'll test them along with a video. If they test good, I'll send them right back. If they are bad, I'll send new ones along with a video showing they were tested.

The tube tester prevents any issues from buyers.

Just for complete transparency.
I had listed the amp on reverb, and decided to take it off, thinking I should just keep it for awhile.

but then the guy hit me up and wanted to buy it. So I just gave him my paypal in the messages of Reverb, I also gave him the option of NOT paying gift of course.

So he got the amp, and was happy about it.

Image-1_zpsgaposs4k.jpg

then the rest. notice the dates...time has passed and he just seemed to want a new set of tubes. He seems to know something about amps...

Image-2_zpso3pyatij.jpg

ok so he put a quad of his own tubes in..no problem...

Image-4_zpsh9sdsn4h.jpg

so he asked for some Sovteks,

Image-5_zpszdq8w1lo.jpg

I responded to him saying I didn't think it was fair at all, but I would send him tubes to make him happy if he wanted them.

FITOTALNAL_zpsnrdiqhxy.jpg

No way man. Maybe I'm misreading this but he says he put in different tubes and that the amp was fine?

But he still wants a new set of tubes? No way.

That went south fast. Tubes glow regardless. I could cook a grilled cheese on my tubes in my Marshall.

What I find interesting is that they were good for the first few days then he says he wants a different tube type. Typical tone chasing looking for that extra .000000000374859563% improvement and doing anything to try to get it.

Be careful how you go with this. If reverb finds out that you sold an item through them but circumvented the system to avoid paying fees, they will ask you to pay the fees and will even bill you for them. It happened to me and I learned my lesson. Either way.

Doesn`t surprise me one bit unfortunatley

Looks to me like the sale went through Reverb based on the screenshots you posted. You just have him your PayPal address through the Reverb chat.

I don't see what the big deal is. So he wants new tubes. The guy was nice enough to pay the PayPal fees and you also avoided the Reverb fees. That's over 6% in fees you avoided. Could have been worse.

  I'm just stating the obvious. You said it all yourself in your posts. He paid with PayPal gift. I don't know if you ever used the gift option before but the sender of money pays the PayPal fee. So what are talking about.

Also the screen shot you posted of your conversation clearly shows that the communication of the sale went through the reverb chat.

I'm not making this shit up. It's all there for anyone to see. And you posted it not me.

And I'll post in all your posts from now on thanks.
