Deliverance is bad ass. If I didn’t have a 2204, I think I’d have a D120 and would be very content.

Yep. I love it, but to get into the true magic its gotta be LOUD! No surprise there right; its a tube amp :) But man does that amp move some serious air and thump the walls around ya.

I can't find my "one to rule them all" amp. It seems like I mostly need two main sounds, although not at the same time, so I'm a 2 amp kind of guy.

I’ve always thought my ultimate amp would get me a stellar hi-gain sound and the ultimate clean sound too. James Peters took the time to set me straight. He told me flat out, a crystal clear clean sound, ideally, would be played through a different cab (most likely open-back) and different speakers than you would use to get a great hi-gain sound. Using one amp to get two or more very different sounds means you’re going to be compromising on at least one of the sounds.

The choice is either use one amp to get your primary sound as close to perfect as you can and make your compromise on everything else or get another amp and don’t compromise on either sound.

I’d love to be a single amp guy but I’ve come to the conclusion that I need two very different amps and my search for a single-ended, 30 watt, class A, 212 combo is in high gear. In fact if I could do it all over again I’d go with a two channel Peters (rhythm and lead) and pair it with a combo for cleans. Live and learn I guess.

If my BE100 didn't have such a lackluster clean(not bright enough when presence set for the gain channels), yeah I'd be using one amp.....I have the most up to date with the orange board(2014) model, sounds GREAT...I hear the new Buxom Betty clean is the shit, if it's as good as claimed, yeah I probably could get all I need out of one amp and be happy. Until I get the guts up to ship my amp to Dave....it's looking more and more like a JC120 is in my future.

I like the idea of being finished and finding the sound I want(I'm there for gain/fx...cleans are actually being more difficult for the sound I want), more concentrating on playing/making music. Nothing against folks who like lots of amps, more power to ya(good for the companies that make the amps we love too)!

I've had a lot of great amps over the years, but my BE100 is my holy grail. No other amp has satisfied me like it does. I do like the cleans but wouldn't mind them being glassier like the Betty's is. I mentioned a possible mod for that on a different forum and Dave piped-up and seemed to indicate that he could do it. So I will be pursuing that shortly.

Where did I get the idea that it could be done? I plugged into the new BE50. Have you played one? The clean channel is the most glorious clean channel I've ever heard on a channel switcher... including my old Bogner Shiva and H&K Triamp Mk I. I would have serious GAS for a BE50, but outside the glassy clean deal I am 100% satisfied with my 100. Even that is a very minor thing for me. The BE's tone is just so amazing and satisfying for me. The recently-acquired Wildwood Taco that's sitting next to it seems to nail that same vibe. I got it as a backup and daily practice rig. It's friggin amazing. Maybe even a hair more musical than my BE is.

Having said all of that, I'd still like to have a Betty eventually as a pedal platform. :D

Maybe... but it would be very very difficult.

I’m at 11 soon to be 12 amps... so I prefer variety.

I need to visit you sometime and bath in the glory of your amp collection sir!

My answer to this question changed after 2 things: owning many amps and listening to James Lugo’s amp shootout. lMO you can get close to the majority of tones with 1 high-end tube amp and some pedals. After listening to the shootout it’s apparent that the amps are 95% the same sonically.

For fun, I currently own these amps: SLO, 20th Shiva, EVH, 2204, and a DSL100. I would be satisfied with any of these amps if it came down to it. The Shiva has been my main amp over the last year due to its versatility and I tend to gravitate to that subtle Bogner tone.

But then again, maybe my ears just suck and are not as sensitive as other RT’ers ;)

My answer is yes, with a caveat. One true amp to cover the tone that appeals to you most. Plus, a modeler to get you 95% there on everything else.

Ive been playing for over 30 yrs and have had several amps and must say I am happy with my 100 watt 5150 lll --3 channels and plenty of volume--nice clean sound -modded blue channel and plenty of gain on the red channel. I do have other amps but this one gets used the most.
