Satisfied w/1 amp? Is it possible?

Not possible for me, I have the attention span of a gnat and need to have at least a couple of amps to switch between.

Right now I have....

Bogner Shiva - my main amp
Marshall JVM1H - I can crank this one at home, often used when I want more gain than the Shiva
1972 Fender Bassman 100 - This is really my bass guitar amp, but I also use it as pedal platform, or when I want that style of clean tone
Yamaha THR - travel amp

I might add the little 4 watt Vox, it scales down to .25 watts, another amp I can crank at home volumes, but different sound from the JVM1H.

The more gigs I play with my 2555x the more I’m finding it to be an extremely versatile
head. Between the wattage selection, active EQ, clean side for pedals, and the ability to
get good tones at normal volumes it’s all worked out well so far and I’m now offloading
some unused amps.

Yes for me. I went through so many amps like all lf us. Not 50 though, more like 20.
I had 8 100 watt heads in a bedroom at one time. I went through five diezel models as well.

All to buy the first boutique head I ever owned a second time and then sell off all else I had.

My attitude about gear has changed as I got older I just want nice gear that I can play, tired of obsessing over nuances, at this point I can dial a decent sound with damn near anything.

It is YOU not the gear. So many subjective human variables, emotions, expectations etc. All of your amps sound good.

I also stopped being a collector soley for that purpose, I have nothing in my possession any longer that I don’t use. I used to need a full room to store my gear.

Im also at the age where I tried so many things I already know a dumble no matter the model or cost just isnt going to work for my modern metal.

I like drastically different styles/tones, so I don't think any single amp is ever going to satisfy me. Yes, there are great channel switchers out there that cover a lot of ground (Bogner, Wizard, Friedman, Morris, Diezel, Suhr, etc. etc.), but no single one of them is going to give me everything I like.

The steely 3D chime of a Matchless HC30, the smooth overdrive of a Naylor SD60, the nasty, uncompressed punch of a Wizard.... these are all drastically different tones, all of which are totally awesome, but no one amp is going to do these things as well as each dedicated amp will.

Jer...what did you think of the Armageddon?

I've played the Armageddon on a few occasions and thought it was pretty nasty, in a good way. Was comparing it to a 6505, Marshall 210h and Marshall 410h and remember really liking it.

Dude it’s pretty darn awesome actually. I don’t know what kept it from being more of a household amp. A TON of tones in there. Sounded awesome in person. I was pleasantly surprised.

Jer for a guy like you who plays various styles in different types of bands its hard to go with "1 amp to rule them all". Makes sense you feel that way. For me i am a 2 amp guy. Something super modern, and something vintage, and that usually covers all the bases for me. Although ... the new 5153 EL34 50w has me intrigued ....LOL
Yeah Jason I hear you. I get into a bit of a hoarding thing with gear at times where I just have a tone of stuff and it gets zero playtime. I THINK I may just have a problem of too much Marshall. Between the Splawn, the Henning and the Friedman I can get a lot of the similar tone. The Splawn is the easiest to see myself without right now.

I love my prs archon. It completely killed any other amp gas I had. I didn’t even try any amps out at namm except for a revv and I wasn’t overly impressed

I basically need a modernized AC30 that doesn't get ratty when overdriven (Bad Cat), and a tight hot rodded Marshall (Spawn-ish, maybe?). I also need different speakers to get the sound from each I want, so I'd have to find some sort of balanced speaker to cover both territories. It never happens in the same amp.

I have had lots of amps over the last while...more like since I joined rig talk. I have just had my Archon combo for a year now, and it is awesome!! The stock speaker sucked, but with a Creamback H in it the amp is more versatile than you would think. For the less distorted sounds leaving the gain up, and rolling the volume off sounds much better than lowering the gain, and higher guitar volume which is really nice because I can just use the volume knob to get different shades of distortion. Also the clean channel is killer.

I find that having one amp makes you learn how to work the controls better. You can't just plug into a different amp if you want a different sound. The other day I wanted a pushed clean sound, which I didn't think the Archon could do, but I found with the volume almost all the way up, and using the gain as a volume I was able to get a very touch sensitive pushed sound without getting too crazy loud.

I might eventually get bored of the Archon, and get something else, but one amp at a time seems to work for me. I am not playing in a band, so I don't need a backup.

I feel like th answer is no...

I have my Sig: X, Dirty Shirley 40, Bottle Rocket and Quick Rod.

Quick Rod is spoken for and I have been looking at some Revv and KSR stuff. Was just talking to someone here and he says his amp quest is over! I wanna feel that way! LOL!

I get stressed out thinking of only having one amp. Anyone else here running solo and loving it?

Been KIND of thinking whittling down but can not commit.

Granted, I haven't really been playing for a year+ so I haven't cared about any amps but I've been content with my Deliverance rig for many years now. That doesn't mean there haven't been amps I like and would enjoy having, but they're few and far between and I'm satisfied with what I've got to the point that there's not even the thought of buying another.

The Deliverance does kick all kinds of ass doesn't it  The power section on that amp is something special.

Yep, I love it. A single channel but there's so much versatility and it's tonality is very unique in my opinion. I use it with the Deliverance 4x12 (P50E) and Deliverance 2x12 (Fanes) and it's everything I need.

Bob, can you share your opinion on how the Fanes compare to the Eminence speakers?

Deliverance is bad ass. If I didn’t have a 2204, I think I’d have a D120 and would be very content.

Still rocking my Peters GNL. But my sickness is pedals.

I've been really happy with my Cornford for years, so yeah, it's possible depending on your needs.

Having said that, I'm always down for something that floats my boat, at a great price. :D

Also plan on grabbing a Helix fairly soon, just need to figure out full version or LT.
