Went to a real large firework show and they had a live band there.
They sounded really good overall.
Of course I focused on the guitarist and his tone.
He was playing a Peavey XXX and they were doing all sorts of covers and the amp sounded really good!!
It was an outdoor gig of course....
but the tone cut thru good. Sounded like he was running some sort of Phaser or Flange or Chorus on it all the time.
But the tone was cutting.
Kudos for another Peavey!
I owned a XXX about 4 years back or so....decent amp for the price for sure.

Peaveys are great amps that track well and can cut through a mix. I'm not a huge XXX fan, but I have heard them sound pretty good live. Same with JCM 900s, but neither will get men forum cred.

Peaveys are great amps.

The 5150/XXX over time, in my opinoin have shown that they can hang with the big boys.

one of the best tones i have ever heard recorded in my life was a JCM900 dual tracked with a 5150 II.

i love 5150's, have owned and played them my whole life. mine will never leave my hands

the ultra 120+ is the predecessor of the XXX, the XXX was the signature amplifier made for george lynch. the 3120 is the successor of the XXX.

What's strange is that I loved the Ultra but couldn't make a XXX sound quite the same. The Ultra is still one of my favorites. And Classic 30s are fun too.

Had plenty of 5150's...and a XXX...but never an Ultra.
Got good tones out all 5150's and the XXX....
Cant got wrong with a good Peavey.
Even though I have a Mesa Dual Recto and a Marshall Jcm 900 SLX these days......

Played with a band last night , the one guitarist had an old peavey combo that had to be from the 70's or early 80's as it had the old peavey logo type and they kicked serious ass. When u r using certain gear in a band situation live the minor nuances picked out in your bedroom are barely noticable, especially to the crowd. I guess what I am saying is that we over analyze stuff and become way to picky. The best players I have seen can show up and make it happen through anything.

I used a XXX in a rehearsal studio for about a year and loved it so much that I almost bought one...

i've got a special 120 combo that i recently sent back to the factory and had refurbished. it's got a nashville clean that sounds pretty darn good.. imho. i'm seriously considering using it as a wet amp in a w/d setup i'm thinking about putting together. brought the pedalboard home to try out the tones and see how it likes what i'm using. it's also got a big.. fat reverb. sounds like i fell in a well.

I still have, and use a XXX from time to time. Great amp for the money! Much better than the 3120 imho.

i have owned a few xxx's, and have always been able to get good tones with em. i currently have a jsx which is a variation of the xxx. i will never sell my JSX. or at least i dont think i will sell it anyways
