You'd probably have to change the bias resistor or something. Reach out to Scott Splawn and see what he says. He might tell you what needs to be done.

that's exactly what has to be done...because the tubes run at different amperage...I think the 34s run lower than the 88s and the pot that's in there for the 88s lowest threshold is way too high for the 34s

The QR is more open and yeah, "organic" or "transparent" compared to the JVM410H (I own both, note avatar ). I love both however and use 'em for different reasons (though I personally believe each can cover the others area well enough). In a band/jam scenerio, it's a no brainer, I'd prefer the QR. In a studio/project studio thing for tracking, I'd want both, especially for leads/soloing, melodies, etc, where I'm liking the JVM a bit more at the moment because it IS more compressed, has more sag and a more liquidy feel, that's the main reason why I bought one anyway, that and its cleans are great compared to the Splawn. Leads with the JVM just sound awesome over stuff laid down via the QR, but I haven't had as much luck with the opposite of that. Another minor plus for the Marshall is that it sounds great at low volume, really does (though I crank mine). They've both been "keepers" for me since day one and the thought of letting either go has never entered my mind. (=

As far as build quality, they're both strong, but believe it or not, the tolex on the QR (2009 model) has begun to come loose and curl up on many of the corners. An easy fix, but still...

I do like a little saturation so I slap an OD808 in front of it. Shred makes fun of me for it, says it's my 'crutch' but he can go fuck himself... LOL!
