going back and reading it again, which one is the most similar to a high wattage greenback>? is that the m? sorry for the stupid q's ive got a greenback cab and its always my favorite, but would like something that could handle more watts...

M's are the higher wattage Greenback. I have had the 100 watt M's and still have the 65 watt M's with the large dust cap.

Blackback versions should add some hair and presence suitable for metal I would think.

I'd vote for the BM75s with the large dust cap. I have always found reissue Greenbacks and G12-65s too flat sounding, especially the 65s. I love the Blackbacks for moderate to high gain.

I second this. This is also the speaker that Jim would also probably recommend, guessing from your intended musical target.

I've got 4 of these in a diezel FL and holy shit..... they sound very alive; they are not too bright or sizzly at all. Great for metal, which is pretty much all I play. Handles 80's thrash through modern metal with ease.

Bumping for recent experiences. I have Creamback H/M mixed in a diagonal 2x12; top panel open on the back of the cab to let it breathe a bit.

I play modded marshall amps, which can be a bit bright. Maybe the Celestions aren't broken in yet, but they tend to get bit to 'gritty' or piercing at higher volume and gain, and I find myself running my treble at zero almost.

I like my amps to do the EQ's and adding cut and distortion more than the speaker, but some speaker flavor is good. I play hard rock and some early metal in a cover band. Zep, GNR, Kravitz, AIC, Tool, Black Album Metallica.

I have a Redback and J75-100. Each I tried in a 1x12 with ported vent in the back and I much prefer the J75 as it allows me to use my amps EQ more and it still cuts, but the Redback is an awesome speaker for sure! ...the J75 I have is a 2011 and I guess has Weber parts? I dunno, it just has a sticker that says Weber...

Anywho, Scumback speakers for rock/metal?

Just checked out the link and the clips on the website again.

I have still never tried these speakers and have wanted to for years. Seems like the M75-LD would be the best sounding option for high gain brutal metal type tones?

Just email Jim @ Scumback if you have questions. He's SUPER responsive and will tell you the right speaker for your music preference and specific gear.

J75 is my favorite all around. No need to mix IMO.

BM75s are good for the heavier stuff too.

I called Jim. He recommended the H75-LD on the bottom and the M75-LD or J75-LD as the top-angled speaker.

I'll do more research. My amps are angry, brigther modded marshalls, so I don't like gritty speakers that sound like their added more distortion or hair....I call that fizz.

If you have bright amps and are worried about too much "fizz", then I would go with the M and H mix that Jim recommended over the J's. The H's will give you the low-end thump, and the warmth of the M's will smooth out the highs. The J's might not smooth them out enough-if you had darker amps they would work a little better IMO.

I have an M75/J75 mix in my 2x12 right now, and used to have a quad of M75-LD's in a Marshall 4x12. I've also had an M55 and a J55 in a 1x12 combo at one time. I haven't owned the J75-LD's.......yet!

I have J75/ V30’s in my 412. Sounds really good. Not too bright, but no mud and plenty of bass. J75 on top and V30 on bottom.

Yeah, Jim said to get the Large Dust Cap (LD) in the H, J, and M for my amps, as they tame the high end, so that’s something to consider!

I may try a Creamback H75 on the bottom and a J75-65watt on the top of my diagonal and see how that combo works.

My favorite scumback combinations have been:

H75LDC/H55 in an X-pattern - These sounded incredible in my Mills cabs, but a little bass heavy in the standard sized Wizard cabs
J75/Vintage 30s - top/bottom - great in standard sized cabs

Forgot about this clip on youtube from Ramon Ortiz. BM75-LD 65w speakers.

It's got a G12-65 Celestion in the clip for a comparison.

I have searched a bit, but whats the general concensus of scumbacks for heavy rock/metal? Ive got a spare cab im gonna use in a stereo, or wet/dry rig. Right now its got 75's and one of them are blown. Would like to get a pair to mix with them...

Dont even bother with scumbacks man, he is such a douche. Get yourself some Splawn smallblocks and you can thank me later! Best metal sounding speaker I have ever played through!

Thanks RedPlated! I figured out what I missed on getting that YT link embedded after quoting your post!

Jim has been nothing but a pleasure for me to deal with, answering every question and having more information listed than Celestion and the other manufacturers combined.
