Thanks. Probably gonna sell the JVM.You could just try one of the Rectifier pedals like the Wampler and run it into the effects loop of one of your other amps. I think that your JVM could easily pull off Soundgarden tones FWIW.
Thanks man. Great tips!! I have on old BOSS Ge10 that is amazingly quiet and can be really effective fine tuning. I will keep tinkering if I get the gig. Time to nail down the material as best I can and see what happens. The Recto is known for being very loose in the preamp and having no negative feedback in the poweramp.
You could probably get VERY close to a Recto with your 50w Ecstasy on the high gain channels which don’t have all that much filtering, and maxing out the Presence, setting the poweramp switch to Loose, and then being very conservative with the mid and treble knobs, maybe even adding an EQ in the loop to control the highs. My XTC can get surprisingly close to my Recto that way.
I played one...they are muddy sounding.Always wanted to try an Electrodyne. How's it compared to a Stiletto Deuce?
I was thinking the exact same thing. Its hard for me to believe they would give him a hard time when the singer sounds that meh. Drummer was great.
yep. zero interest in that one either.I played one...they are muddy sounding.
I don't understand the relevance? Guitar player was a new hire. After one gig, it was clear.. he did not cut it. gig was train wreck. Singer not back at full capacity. He he throat cancer surgery just a year ago plus chemo and radiation. He is damn good singer. Trained with "the Maestro" as did Cornell. He is well known entity in the Seattle scene, but is recovering from throat cancer. Cut him some slack and even he is or was marginal, why should keep the guitar player that is sub standard?I was thinking the exact same thing.
Thanks! for sure! I do not to get anything prior to formally getting the gig. Based on what I know know and from experimenting, I Will like not get anything other than maybe a pedal or two. and only after I am officially hired. I was getting what o thought were great tones straight into a 77JMP snd Bogner Oxford Fuzz in front. It convinced me. Guaranteed 10x better than either tone the other guys were getting. XTC 50 was good too, but the JMP with the Oxford is just pure filth!!I wouldn't trade/sell gear unless I was 100% sure I was in the band. Politely suggest that if you prove you can play the material, you'll get an amp that works for that sound.
I that regard, Soundgarden to me was always the Rectifier sound. Get a dual rec RI or one of the older ones and you should be fine. You can sculpt your tone further with an EQ in the loop and some pedals out front.
Looks like a great band, btw. I liked that clip you posted.

I have Fryette PS 100 and OX boxI hope you'll report back after your first gig @Jdub !!
Adding a Fryette GPDI/IR to your 2204 would give you a tremendous amount of flexibility !!
All great points and true. Rest assured, if the audition is almost enough of an "excuse " for me to buy a Recto, getting officially hired will surely push me over the edge. But relative to the gear the guitar players are using now, I am more than good on tone until I actually have the job. That Bogner Oxford pedal that has been collecting dust for 10 years into my JMP 2204 sounds great. Does it sound just like just like Thayill, no, But I think they will be impressed.I hear you. But believe you me, there are cover bands and there are *cover bands*. I really liked the clip, the vocalist is really good.
Sometimes to be authentic in a situation where a band might get more, bigger and better shows, it pays to clone an artist's rig.
That said, don't mean to sound preachy. I played one show with a GT-8, and those tones were pretty laughable. Hardly any other shows otherwise, so what do I know?
As they say, "Don't sell the bike shop", so keep the gear you like. And if you do decide to go whole hog, make sure you do it after your position is cemented in the band.
Thanks man!! Yep. Used 4 different guitars yesterday and was still one shy.Congratulations!!! We are all excited to hear/see some videos soon. Now there's just lots of practice, and getting all the specific tunings setup on about 5-10 guitars.![]()
That makes my balls itch just thinking about it. Thanks but no thanks. You know, it could be the real key is dialing in the right wool knit cap.
