Going to replace all 5 in my stock SLO. What brand/model do you SLO guys recommend?

My SLO and HR100+ sounded best with Ruby HG+ 12AX7s, YMMV.

Just got off the phone with Mr. Soldano. He recommended JJ's. Sweet...I can source those cheap.

I thought Mike Soldano usually recommended Sovteks -- that's what's in mine - sounds great!

V1 - JJ
V2 - Sovtek LP
V3 - Sovtek LP
V4 - Sovtek LP
V5 - Sovtek LPS

They are shipping new ones now with JJ's preamp tubes across the board. They do fortunately sound pretty good in the SLO though. However, you can do a little better for the same money. Problem with the JJ's is them going microphonic a little quicker than others.

I stuck with the Sovtek 5881 wafer bottom's that come stock in the amp. Sounds much better than any 6L6 combination that I tried.

I use 8th/9th gen, and Mullards/Hollands and Telefunken in different combos.

V1 JJ
V2, 3, 4, 5 Ei longplates
i can hool you up on that kinda set but would be more expensive than
5 jjs which id sell ya for 45.00 compared to 90.00
pm me:)

i have all jj's in the pre and jj kt66 in the power

sounds great!

A nice NOS Mullard works out well in V1 too in the SLO, as an alternative to a JJ. The preamp tube cocktail in the SLO has more affect on the amp than any other amp I have owned, that's for damn sure. If you want to compress the amp a bit, try a 5751 in V1 or V5 or a 12AT7 in V5. I did hours of tube rolling on the amp, but keep coming back to the stock Sovtek's in the power section and the preamp tubes mentioned earlier. They are definitely a pleasure to own and play - unless you are a neighbor.... :D
