@Scumback Speakers can you believe this? It's true...
I dismissed that speaker with disdain in the 90's, but my God if it isn't amazing.

I had a pair of those in my JCM 800 combo. Totally, tonally CRAP! And even if you did want to, there's no recone kit for them when they blow.@Scumback Speakers can you believe this? It's true...

They blow right out of the boxI had a pair of those in my JCM 800 combo. Totally, tonally CRAP! And even if you did want to, there's no recone kit for them when they blow.
I HATED that speaker too. Did nothing for me, was dull, lifeless...but this video nails the tone!I had a pair of those in my JCM 800 combo. Totally, tonally CRAP! And even if you did want to, there's no recone kit for them when they blow.
IKR?! Awful things! But yet here we are!The dude that wrote the History of Marshall book even craps on the m70s
Ok Mr Scumback, what we REALLY want to know is what was less pleasing to your ear? The sound from the speaker, or having to listen to Billy Corgan sing on the album of the band in question?I had a pair of those in my JCM 800 combo. Totally, tonally CRAP! And even if you did want to, there's no recone kit for them when they blow.
So, we’re now pretending that SP ever had anything even remotely approaching good guitar tone?
The difference between being a good artist, songwriter, or performer, and being a random dude in some basement with good tone. I'm sure they chose the tone/sound they did for that album or those songs because it fit the vibe they were going for at the time. Is it what I would personally want if I were writing/recording my own stuff? No. But for SP, it fits just fine.
