So does anything other than a Mesa Mark sound like a Mark?

From clips i've heard i think the SLO has the right vibe to it. Got the same fluid, smooth disotrtion to it. Gain structure sounds similar and both amps are heavy in the mid-range department.

I can get a pretty good Wicked Sensation tone out of my Mark III!

After all Mike Soldano built his SLO after dispointment with a Mark II he bought. From what i've heard the Mark IIC+ is very similar in the pre-amp to a SLO...

Would still take a SLO over the Mark III though :D

Totally different feel and tones, in my experience between an SLO and a Boogie MK.

Not had the chance to play a SLO so can't comment on that. Youtube probably the best think to compare!

I have owned an SLO for about two years. It is great in its own way. Crunch and sear that is like no other in the voicing.

I had and sold a MKV, it was close but not close enough in many ways.

I still have my MKIIC.

The authentic old Mesa Mark series amp that I have, is more like an interactive playing experience instead of hearing a sound.

I would get an old Mesa. I like the clean channel on the IIC. It gets no press, but it has awesome cleans and slight breakup.

YMMV. Amp voicings are so subjective.

Perfect description. I may steal this quote for future posts. I only enjoy amps that have this interaction, a certain bounce and give and take feel.

hmm hard to tell... I'd say Fryette Sig X may be pretty close..

I can get the LEAD channel of my Sig X close to the Mark sound. It is the closest I have heard. The midrange is a bit different . But this is also true of the different Mark amps. The Fryette attack is a bit faster, has more dynamic's and feel is different. But the sound can get in that family of sounds.

I have owned or played on plenty every other amp mentioned in this thread so far.... I have owned a II, III & IV and always had one since 1982.

I remember thinking of (I forget which model) playing an Engl amp-- and thinking it was reminiscent of my MKIII, in tone and feel. A bit different, but close enough for me to think of the similarity.

There's a video comparison of Mesa Mark iv vs Peavey Ultra+
Good tones, very close

For the cost of a Mk III or Mk IV  compared to some of the amps mentioned :scared: Just get a Mesa Mk series. I heard the Mesa Quad had Mk II/III tones in it, that would be cheaper if you had an amp to run it through.

Custom Audio Electronic amps sounds quite similar the Mesa Marks, both awesome amps!

Fender prosonic,

As a fellow Prosonic owner, I thought about posting this too. I'd say it's more like a cross between a Recto and a Mark :inlove: :inlove:

One of my favorite amps ever!

i have 2 prosonic heads, 1 is a old custom shop, the other is a cr number, both sound great,

I have to agree with this. I own a Mark IV and just got a CAA PT-100 and with the feedback low it does remind me a lot of my IV. Tight, squishy, focused but the PT has more of a Marshall mids thing going on.

Sounds like this player can make either of those amps sounds pretty awesome.

+1 I agree, great playing in that vid. I can hear a difference between the peavey ultra and mark III, but both amps sound great. They sound closer than I would have guessed.
