So has Mesa gone the way of Marshall.

Marshall sold to China. Nothing new or exciting or what people want. Legacy but don’t expect anything new or exciting.

Mesa owned by Gibson. Randall canned. MK 7 last new pre-Gibson take over production amp.
Rash of C+ and recto reissues have been released.

So was that Mesa’s swan song.

Will Mesa ever make something new and amazing again or put a fork in them.

One can hope

The reissues seem to be what a lot of people wanted and by all accounts compare well to the originals. That's a good thing.

As far as doing something new, I sort of feel like amps have hit a wall. There's good 3 and 4 channel versions of most everything with a bunch of power section size options. I don't see myself buying another Mesa after the JP2C.

What we really need is to stumble on an entirely new circuit, but the trial and error that makes that possible is long gone with tubes no longer being in general use.

Their current output is great. The IIC+ and Recto reissues are fantastic, just as good as the originals.

However I think the jury's still out on whether they'll continue to innovate and put out cool new amps. Randall is out but he spent quite a long time training successors, but they're not him. Could go either way. I'm pretty sure the Badlander, California Tweed, and Fillmore were designed by people other than Randall.

Randall designed the Mark VII (incredible amp) and the IIC+ Reissue though. The IIC+ RI was his last project at Mesa.

I'm happy with what they've been doing.

I agree with @DanTravis62 in that this is the first time I've even looked at Mesa in the past 20 years or more. And I don't think the Reissue Dual Rectifier just sounds as good as the originals, I think it sounds better. Mesa/Gibson made some real improvements to the circuit. So much so, that I bought one.

+1

Phew a new triaxis would be amazing - it's so fucking difficult to find one in decent shape for a sane price now

…this time with a GEQ.

As far as Mesa and Marshall go, Marshall makes the 1987x/1959HW/JTM45/2203x reissues in UK. They also have quite a big number of other reissues and also the JVM that will go from clean to more gain that one ever needs. Mesa brought the Recto and IIC+ reissues which ppl have been wanting forever, me included, and they have the Fillmore, California, MarkVII etc. I think both have quite a stellar lineup at the moment. 🤷

Many of my favorite guitar tones have been recorded with these amps I mentioned. From this list I own the 1987x, 1959HW and the IIC+ RI so I cannot complain about Marshall or Mesa. I am not a vintage gear person so I rather buy a reissue and hopefully have a care free amp for its function. There are some pieces of gear I want that are not manufactured anymore but that is another story.

I'm not as deep into the Mesa history as some of the folks here, but Doug West still being involved is a great thing I would think. I don't have a sentimental attachment to Randall though. I've run the gamut on quite a few new gibson models and never walked away thinking "this is a piece of shit", it was always "Thats a good les paul" or "wow"on some of the CS stuff, granted they were all decently set up. The recto reissues are nailing my mid life crisis, and I've never been happier.

Innovation is happening in the digital space. I'm perfectly ok with freezing the current iconic amp mfgs in amber.

I think it is so nice Soldano made the X88IR! Hopefully other manufacturers follow bringing back the rack gear. 😎

A new Triaxis would at least be worth looking at. But I'll admit my existingTriaxis is just sitting.
I still have a TriAxis, though it has the unpopular phat mod.
Mine is recto but non-fat. I've never actually heard a fat one.

it smooths out the top end in the Lead 1 Red channel...apparently it can be reversed. IIRC, my serial number indicates it came from the factory this way....been awhile since I checked or used it.

assuming both of these are in good working order:
