 Hell yeah man. Let's see some before and after pics!

+1!! I'd like to see it before and after the chop! Good luck!

:)

1) Measure with a yardstick

2) Mark with a crayon

3) Cut with an axe

4) Miss and smack your buddy in the leg

5) Submit video to break and get $400

:D

Bob, what's the body made of? Perhaps after you're done, if the wood is pretty enough under there, you can tung oil it?
I say go for it. Especially if you can get someone to do it the right way. Resale value is great for collectors.

Sounds like it's going to be like one of those $4k Tylers with the natural finished forearm relief area. You may actually increase the value of the guitar

I say do it and we need pics, before, DURING, and after.

PS. I can't wait until Bob does this and we all laugh at him after. There's going to be years of "remember when we all convinced Savage to butcher his Vigier?"

LOL!!!

Vlad, it's a maple top with alder.

I'm outta here, we're starting at 2 PM... I'll grab the camera.

You go girl!
Sand the whole thing down and refinish it in tung oil or something...

Bob.. :D

James also thinks its a good idea

Oh man! I can't even tell you much I can't wait to see this...

Steve

I say do it.

I did that once to a strat style body and had a little problem you might want to be aware of. I checked and marked the area I wanted to sand while I was sitting down. I sanded it down and later realized my arm came across the body at a different angle when standing and my new contour didn't perfectly match that.

As long as all the tone goblins don't live in the part that you're sanding off, you should be fine.

I say do it! Let me say this, though... That's how Les Pauls are too and we all know I love those guitars. Sometimes the guitar edge will bug my forearm, but only when I'm sitting down. If I stand up, it's no problem. Same with my Tele.

This may be a stupid suggestion, but maybe try playing it standing up and see if it still bothers you?

Chris

Good suggestion. My ESP is LP-like, and wearing it kinda low and standing up, usually reduces the forearm problem.

NO BOB WAIT! WE WERE ALL JUST KIDDING!!!!!! Oh crap guys, no one told him we were just messing with him. He's really going to do this and it's on ALL of you. I hope you guys are proud of yourselves.

It might be cool if you can sand all the French-ness off of that guitar.

LOL ...that cracked me up!

Bob if it's a keeper, I'd say customize away so you'll enjoy playing it more....but if you don't know exactly what you're doing STOP!

probably to late now but I sure you are doing this anyway. I was just going to say protect the rest of the finish when your sanding,

WOW! I'd pull every last resistor out of my amp but would never, ever cut my guitar. Maybe I'm missing something.... everyone else things it's okay.

Good luck, hope it doesn’t alter the tone of the guitar… maybe it might make you like it even more, though, who knows.

I'm back home now... hand held bandsaw, belt sander, sand paper, elbow grease, laquer... I need to get into the garage and do a sand of the clear coat and spray it again, but I think you guys are going to dig it. The final inspection is going to be when I pull the bag and tape off of it, but I'm 99% positive that I like how it looks better now. You should see the beautiful flamed maple and alder showing. I tell you, it's a thing of beauty.

I took plenty of pictures.

Be back later, or tomorrow or something.
