So, how stupid...

I doubt you are going to take enough wood from th ebody to alter th etone based on what you are describing...that would be my only ocncern given the scenario.

Otherwise, I see no reason not to make it more comfortable.

Hell look at what EVH plays and what SRV played!

Yep, that's the one. I'll take a look at that, do they have a website? Plus, if I ever do decide I want to sell it, I could simply sell it as a Custom Vigier. :D Actually, it would be a Custom Vigier Excalibur Custom, so it would be double custom. Woot woot!
Thats a double negative though so they would count each other out. :aww:

Ive been up since 4am with barfing kids. Where are the damn pictures? :gethim:

I think you misunderstand "double negative."

I'm at work... pics are at home, later...

I really wouldn't have done that myself. If I had that problem I would look towards adjusting my technique before hogging wood off, but its your guitar. ;)

Meh, it's far simpler to just hog out a bunch of wood than change my "technique," if you can call it that.

By the way, the guitar FEELS SPECTACULAR to play now! Problem solved. :D

Still at work... I don't have time to do a step by step right now, but here's before and after. The after is obviously not "done" because a final polish needs to be done, plus I hadn't pulled all the tape at the time of the picture, but you'll get the idea...

Hey Bob, did you remove the binding at the sanding line or did you tape it off at the binding at sand from there? :)

That's not a binding, it's a carved edge.

Doh, I'm retarded

I didn't want to point out the flame in the "binding." :D If that would have been a binding I don't think I would have attempted the mod.

Nice Bob, looks great. What wood is that under the maple?

No doubt, but had I not had MD to do the final shaping, it would certainly have been MeTaL!!!!

I think you answered your question Bob as you stated you will never get back what you have into it.

To some this sounds insane but why not?

+ 1. I would advise just getting a cheaper guitar to do whatever you want with it, but if you feel confident you can't get much back for the current guitar and feel it'd be put to great use with the change you're talking about, it's probably worth just going for it.

Hard to tell with the tape still on, but that might look totally badass...

The wood under it looks great, you should just finish it clear to add some originality

If the yellow look in the "after" pic is really what the wood ends up looking like, I think it's pretty sweet. I was thinking it would end up lighter than it appears in the "after" picture.
