Matt.......
For real....this amp is as BAD ASS as it gets!!!
Not going ANYWHERE! :gethim:
SOOOOOO DAMN KILLER ........cant else how to describe it?

I too GAS hard for the VH4! I MUST own one. looks like we need a Diezel GAS club!

Can't even bring myself to sell my Einstein to get one. The Einstein is such a keeper as well.

Ill just have to save up and have both!

As for the Herbert Vs VH4 ,its all in flavors, IMO the VH4 kills the Herbert.

That VH4 can Do it all and sound PERFECT while doing it!!
I am the HAPPIEST I have been amp wise in 28 years!!

this thing..........RULES!!!

to me the Herbert shreds better.

More modern and way heavier sounding. 2nd channel just kills!!!! 3rd channel sings on leads for ever.
Modern Plexi tones all day.

VH4 has more tight compression voiced more like a JCM800 if that makes sense.

See.... what did I say ....

Herbert or VH4 is the issue now    :D

Honestly........this VH4S is the PERFECT AMP for what I want.
I ma sure the Herby does metal better.....but how can I bitch when this VH4S sounds so damn good!
To me? I think its a WIN/WIN situation on the Herbert VS the VH4 case.......
you just cant lose with either!

Once you go Diezel, you're done... :D Are they way too expensive to start with? Yep.... is it totally worth it once you have a Diezel rig? Yep.... Ever heard the saying "they've got you bent over a barrel."??? It's like that, except you're actually enjoying it...

Oh, and the VH4 is the Herbert's bitch, because it owns it.

Oh I am sure that a HERBERT will grace my cab one day.....

But this VH4S running in Stereo thru a Full stack is the FUCKING BOMB!!!

Honestly a WALL OF TONE!!! :worship:

If it got better........I would shit myself!

What year is your VH4?

Got the chance to play on a Herbert a couple days ago at the ESP Custom Shop in Tokyo and it fucking rocked. Dialed in a BRUTAL rhythm tone on Ch.2 and channel 3 has so much gain it is sick! I have played on them before but it was always at ampfests or at NAMM where circumstances make it hard to really hear the amp...It is hilarious to me that I had to go all the way to Japan to get some QT with a Herbie!  I really dug it and could see myself owning one for sure.

put the herbert and the EP side by side in a live situation - id tell you which head i would own easily. you can have great tone all day long, but when no-one can hear it live because it doesnt cut through the mix - it doesnt matter what you play.

VH4 i thought, had more of a clear mid emphasis that had that cutting edge type of feeling that a marshall does. the gain was very unique and defined, where the herbert was a complex gain tone with its own character.

id still take a modded marshall over a herbert anyday. a VH4 on the other hand would be a tougher choice. id probably go with a VH4

The Herbert has more bottom end for sure, but the EP is a tad tighter. I really like the feel of the Herbert, it was really effortless to play on. The EP is a bit stiffer unless it is really opened up volume wise. I would really like to use a Herbert in a band situation, that would really tell me if I it is an amp for me to own. Sadly, that will probably never happen unless I buy one.

I am definitely on the lookout for a good deal on a used Herbert, though. If the right deal comes along, I will probably buy it.

I don't doubt that if the amps were side by side I would feel the same. It has been almost a months since I have played on the EP and I am missing it big time!

I totally agree

I prefer the VH4 for its mid emphasis and tightness. the Herbert while crushing can easily disappear if you overdo the mid cut. I personally would never turn it on so the VH4 is a better choice for me.
