Those 5 nights at radio city were my first ever concerts!
I went on Super Bowl Sunday and it was brutally cold, on record as on of the coldest in the city's history.

I've never been able to fund video footage of that. 1985 powerslave tour with queensryche. Maiden kicked ass !!

Ha.....that makes us old Metalheads!!!

Any more of you guys can go as far back???

I saw them summer of 1981 open for Judas Priest. My buddies and I went out and bought the Killers album to see what we were in for.
One of the best shows I've ever seen.

Got me beat as well.

Ironic that the show you saw was the thread in question group wise. I never knew that Maiden supported Priest back in the day.
That is a kick ass concert !!

A dream summer show for me would be Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, and Acdc all on the same bill as a Fathers of Metal festival.
I've been saying this for years now. That would be for me the ultimate.

Yeah, I'm probably a little older than you guys. Starting in about '78 I started going to any and every concert I could.

If I'm not mistaken Judas Priest was touring for Point of Entry and the Killers album had not been out too long. The bill was Humble Pie, Maiden and Judas Priest but just before the show started they announced Humble Pie had cancelled and you could get a refund...there was silence...then they announced that Maiden and Priest would play extended sets and the place erupted in cheers as if everyone in the coliseum had just won the lottery! Truly one of the best shows I've ever seen and I've seen a lot.

Priest and Maiden are so different that I don't think I could ever pick one over the other.

I saw the Powerslave tour and Defenders of the Faith tour both in Allentown Pa. I was 12-13 years old. Good times....

Basically, started this thread for fun and to spark some good convos.

But the truth is , Judas Priest is never going to be as cool as Iron Maiden, never have as good of a iconic mascot. Never have better songs.

Iron Maider will always be better.

I've seen both live at their peak. Halford was more consistently excellent live. Love Bruce Dickinson's recorded work. Live...not so much.

Maiden is one of the first and definitely most successful Prog Metal band. Arguably my favorite band. And sorry Paul....its the Bruce show. One of the best metal vocalists ever. Number of the Beast to Somewhere in time. After that I fell off. Priest?? Love them also but not in the same category. However the first tunes I ever learned on guitar were Breaking the Law and Heading out to the Highway. Saw Priest in 82, and Maiden just 3 years ago and they killed it. Thing about Dave and Adrian is...they just plugged into JCM 800s/JMPs with a boost and let em rip. No mods from what I've read. Now its DSLs.

I think Maiden more of that power metal thing unless were being really general. I never really called Maiden a prog metal band, I think of bands like Rush, ELP, old Genesis, Kansas, Dream Theater, etc to be more of that Prog thing. Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, Dio, Accept are that power metal wave.

The Richard Simmons type shorts in the OP's initial video scarred me. I love both bands, remember the video but wasn't prepared for those shorts.

Richard Simmoms shorts scare you, but biker leather , whips and mustaches don't..

Are you flirting with me? No they don't scare me. I said Scarred, not scared. ;)

Yeah man. When those bands became popular, I was still in mourning over Sabbath's break up. JP grew on me, and is still one of my favorite Hard rock/metal bands, but other than a couple of tunes , I find Maiden difficult to listen to. No denying that they are great musicians, but the singers voice fatigues my ears.

I'm a fan of both bands and don't see the need for the "my dad can beat up your dad" banter...there is no bestest here :)

He did say that he wanted to stir a good conversation, so it's cool.

I wish Maiden would lose that 3rd guitar player for Christ's sake already...he's a silly shit, running around twirling his guitar everywhere...he adds NOTHING to them...and for crying out loud, get KK back in Priest already.

I saw both of these tours, each in their own way was truly epic. Maiden opening for Priest was as good as it got that year, and Queensryche opening for Maiden on the Rage for Order tour absolutely blew my doors off. Rage for Order done live raised the bar for everything else I'd see from then on.
Good times. We spent a huge amount of time across many states going to the best shows, sometimes the shows were so good we'd follow them to the next one :D Back then it was all about delivering the goods in a live context. Priest on the Screaming for Vengence tour was like being run over by a bus   Saw them 4 times on that tour

I totally agree, he's made me cringe everytime I've seen Maiden as of late... EEK

Wow, I feel really old now. Loved priest, then bought the first maiden album when it came out. Then killers. Saw the same tours you guys are talking about. Then number of the beast, what a fantastic album and tour. Powerslave album and tour was the beginning of the HUGE maiden shows, and the last time I saw them. By that point I was into heavier/angrier shit.

Steve Harris was a god to me back then.

Same here. That's exactly what happened to me, started getting onto heavier stuff.

Never lost the love f classic metal though. Nothing puts a big smile on my face then when I listen to classic maiden and priest albums!

Yeah Gers or whatever needs to be gone. Give him some money and tell him to do a solo project. Also I won't see Priest without KK. A band is all about chemistry and sometimes tension is part of the chemistry...like....Pink Floyd.
