Ok, so what is the difference between having Dave make an amp for you from scratch, or buying, say, a 1987X and giving it to Dave? A lot? Not much?

Be Specific...
I missed this part...
Dave will tell you that an early superlead is most desirable, but I know Dave can make any 1959 model sound fantastic

Ended up being 8 ohms...it's a tiny bit thicker/solid sounding to me. I don't think I've ever run two cabs with a Marshall head.rupe":2c5qkh6o said:George, do you mean you run 8 ohms into a pair of 16 ohm cabs (impedance match) or into a single cab (mismatch)? If the latter, what difference do you hear from running 16/16?Greazygeo":2c5qkh6o said:My amps are always set at 8 ohms with 16 ohm cabs, sounds best to me.
I also have 8 and 16 ohm Hotplates.....seem to always use the 8 ohm.![]()

All you have to do is put a meter on a cab to check ohmage.
I'm smart enough to always match impedance.Digital Jams":2988ij4d said:charveldan":2988ij4d said:So your saying it's OK to set your ohms to whatever position "sounds" the best regardless of what the cabs rated for???rupe":2988ij4d said:How so?charveldan":2988ij4d said:Not to insult you, but this sounds like impedance matching for dummies.Greazygeo":2988ij4d said:Into a single cab, mismatch....when I got my first marshall cab, it was a basketweave deal with no marking on it....had no idea about anything at that point....just tried each position of the imp selector and left it where it sounded best. You are the one not sounding very versed in impedance mismatching, George is spot on.
BTW here is his Marshall tone in the 80s, he is the one with the scalloped flying vee

Who was the genius that told you you had to match impedance? You do know I do this on purpose right?charveldan":vwauabk7 said:I'm smart enough to always match impedance.
I never told you to do anything, i don't put my gear under stress.Greazygeo":2f7yxu69 said:Who was the genius that told you you had to match impedance? You do know I do this on purpose right?charveldan":2f7yxu69 said:I'm smart enough to always match impedance.
