I would HATE to be a stickler, but by preamp, I meant preamp into the computer. I should have specified audio interface.

haha, really I was just kidding, funny nonetheless.

sm57 into a Digidesign 002r into protools. The ONLY thing done in protools is the recording and verb added after the fact... no normalizing, eq'ing compression etc.

To me VH1(first VH album) alway's sounded more like a 50 watt then a 100 watt.VH II sounds more like a 100 watt.Nice clip Rockstah...

thanks man! it is sure is a wonder of mine as well. ;)

Happy Birthday Mark!

I find the opposite - that VH1 sounds more like a 100 watter with the brightness and cleaner/more headroom gain sound. From VH2 on sounds like 50 watters - more sag, less brightness, etc.

Also, you like the pickups very close to the strings? I thought EVH had the pickup far away from the strings?

Andy,
it is interesting how i think hear 50w on something like "Light up the sky" and then think i hear it on "I'm the one" and then just when i think its that i can see how it could be a 100w as well! something we don't know for sure as well as how close his pickup was. i like mine super close though. ;)
Thanks for the birthday wish!
Mark

I'm going to raise my pickup and see what that does. I just installed a Super Distortion in my old Soloist - at about 1/8th inch away from the strings. It sounds bright, but maybe if I crank it higher, it'll even out!?

your clips are always good!

Two things

1. happy birthday today!
2. Original greenbacks/RI greenbacks/Heritage/other??

Early 90's made in England greenbacks.

Those speakers have a lot to do with the tone as well. It sounds great!!!!

Nicely done and fabulous playing!

:)

If Eddie had this tone on their new album I would have listened to it more than twice. As it stands now, I haven't gotten around to my 3rd listen. :D

Mark, just curious, are your tone and gain settings always the same in your clips (volumes on 8/8, tones mostly 8 except for the bass)? Or, do you tweak the setting depending on the amp?

so great-just as close as you can get to old eddie imo.

my dream marshall amp would be 1 channel of sweet fat jtm45 clean to early break up,
and channel 2 = your evh tone.

happy birthday!

If I were looking for the VH thing, you would unquestionably be the guy I'd be buying from; never heard anyone nail it harder

Hell, I may buy one anyway....just killer!!! :D
