Speakers are weird (G12M and V30s)

Both are '04 I think. I've had some before ranging from '93 to these. They are terribly inconsistent and I don't understand it.

To two straight-slants I've had sound way better (deeper, warmer) than the true slants I've had, but I have a hard time believing that the different exterior shape makes any difference.

I got an '03 last year and it's just *the sound.* Perfect, happy every time I play though it. Apparently the '03s were the business. Sound like one of yours has speakers made in that run that had the magic. Happy for you bro that you got at least one! I wish we could all have a dream tone Mesa OS. It's like a girlfriend that's your mom in the morning, sister in the afternoon, and concubine at night.

Speaking of old and original 1960AV/BV cabs, I ran across this that goes right along with the conversation. Marshall still used the JCM 800 badge when they first came out in ‘87 or so (same as the advertisement). All of the ones I had from ‘87-‘88 were JCM 800 front badges with AV/BV backplates with a new serial number scheme.

Not sure when they finally switched to the “Marshall Vintage” front badges. Earliest I’ve seen (from memory, could be off) was around ‘89. Notice only 8 ohms shown in the early ad too.

I thought it was around '90 when they redid the numbering scheme to 1960 Classic, Lead, Vintage depending on the speaker used.

Yep, mine is a 1988 with an 800 badge. It's a really impressive tone with any of my Marshalls. No harshness at all...vs the later Vintages which can be a bit top heavy.
