Splawn won't hide your mistakes. The EVH amps have a "fizzy" lack of clarity and string-to-String definition. My vote is for the Quick Rod, and the new version kicks just as much butt as the older ones -- the new transformers add a new dimension to the amp that you just have to hear.
EVH's have very little fizz and have a TON of clarity and note definition. I don't even know WTF you're talking about. It's like you're describing the exact opposite of the amp. I would agree that it's kind of correct for the Peavey's, but not the EVH. That's what I love about the EVH over the Peavey's. It's like the Peavey, but without the fiizz and a TON of clarity and definition.

EVH = great note definition, clarity, and only high end shrillness IF you dial it in that way. smooth and awesome sounding, and the one amp where you don't really have to change tubes right away. sounds awesome stock

Sometimes I think people describe the EVH as if it was the Peavey version.

Wow Vince the new quick rod is beautiful. Love the finish. Waiting for the phone call now lol

I have no experience with the EVH but I love my splawn. Great clarity but apparently since I dont dime the gain I may as well just be playing an acoustic..

What are the differences between your 2010 and 2012? I want a Nitro too. I just wish Squid music would have one in stock ;)

Nitro is cool, but seems kinda dark. I like weird mids though!

I have a 2008 Nitro and a 2012 Nitro. The 2012 smokes the 2008. More saturation and the resonance control actually does something now.

My thoughts exactly...My 2012 just has something more under the hood than my old ones....All around better tone and feel to my ears....Really digging this amp

Never played the EVH but I just got a 2009 QR and love it. Yes, it's less forgiving to play than most amps, but it sounds great. It's also, IMO, not even remotely "hollow". It's thick, articulate and requires a bit more attention to technique. Just like those "braggy" chicken-pickin' country-western dudes.

That's a great looking white QR by the way. Mine's Boa and I'm already tired of the shell. I need to sell it and get something that'll look better on my Bogner 4x12.

Ya thats another thing that cool about Scott & Co.. He custom makes all his headshells with cool tolex colors to match at a reasonable price...
