Still my favorite EVH Tone era....

I worked for the local promoter who owned the Amphitheatre at the time here in Nashville and worked two VH tours.

Balance and III. Had all access since I actually needed to go wherever required and I saw his rig on those two tours up close and personal. In fact I did that with all the bands. All 5150's, no other amp hidden or hidden off stage. On the Balance tour he had his Ernie Balls and was prototyping the Wolfgangs. Honestly the only thing notable each time was his tech had a towel laid out with a bunch of 6L6's lined up. Everything else was what you can find online.

Lots of arguments with people over the years he had stuff hidden because at that time they couldn't believe he was playing Peavey. Glad all that nonsense has died down. His tone was so good on III that I gave the 5150 II's a chance, even had one modded and I could just never get on with it. Always preferred the OG.

Peavey did a good job with the reissue, they need to do the same with the II and I've said for years they need to release the combo in a head version - and but why they didn't fix the volume taper on the reissue who the fuck knows. Geez those guys, they leave alot on the table.

It appears that Ed has his 5150's sometime in 1991. This free Dallas show was 04/12/91 This doesn't exclude the possibly that Ed still used his Marshall's or the SLO at times behind the backline amps until the 5150's were perfected to his ideals.

I am chasing this tone now. Created a thread to get feedback on SLO 100 X SLO 30 X X88Ir X Peavey 5150 Reissue :)

"I gave the 5150 II's a chance, even had one modded and I could just never get on with it. Always preferred the OG." What you mean by OG?

5150/6505 is OG. Original Gangsta bitches! My favorite too. 5150II/6505+ have different mids and are tighter. I love how they sound in others hands, but hate the fucking feel and sound when I play them.
