I have both but after years always prefer string though, for me I hear and feel a huge difference.

I always prefer string through if it's an option on the guitar. I absolutely feel more resonance.

My gibson LP special is the absolute loudest acoustically and reverberates like a mother. It tickles my belly

When if it’s more or less an apples to apples comparison maybe string through is better, but my 4 older Gibson’s are the best sounding and most resonant guitars I’ve owned and obviously not string through. I guess also there’s that great sounding Charvel I just got that’s Floyd Rose (no string through). Almost everything else I have though is string through

I think string through is possibly better with all else being equal, but other factors may matter more to the overall package

I won't disagree but that goes without saying. Beyond the foundation then comes the question which is better for you?

Well that’s the thing, maybe they would be even better for me and others too if they were hypothetically string through (or maybe not). It’s an interesting question but I won’t be able to find out since older Gibson’s didn’t have it

I think old, high quality wood is likely still the most important factor, maybe also little things like using animal hide glue (they say it gives a less dampened sound), also things like nitro or oil finish rather than poly which tends to make it not breath as much tonally and sound plasticy. I haven’t really thought of the string through thing much admittedly, so it’s an interesting point you bring up. The majority of my guitars are string through
