I’ve been thinking about adding a 7 string for something different. I’m generally a Japanese Ibanez fan but i see some interesting other Ibanez, Schector, Solar, and Legator models. Im not familiar with Legator though. I dont know why this 7 string gas hit me but it did lol

I started with an Ibanez and now this happened..

I would not start with a Baritone because the string Tension is higher.. I put my set into a Tension Calculator and it's about half way to the next gauge on a 26.5 scale.. More with a 27"..

Ibanez is a solid value for getting in the game..

Love my Legators. Have about a dozen. GC carries them, so they may have one for you to check out in person if there's one close by to you. Ordering it direct will usually get you better than average QC ,a decent gigbag, nice setup, and nicer figuring, ime. They're made in the same places as a lot of Schecters and Solars (WMI and PT). They do have a MIJ line but for whatever reason only comes in primer grey. If you like the wizard necks that's actually what I kinda refer to the necks on Legators as. Stay away from models that names end in FS, but FSS or others is fine.

I played 7s (then 8s) for a long time. On a budget, just cannot beat a used Japanese Ibanez. The Korean Schecters are nice enough and flashier. Korean LTDs too.

Definitely go for it. I'd start with something used and cheap to see if you like it so you can flip it back for about the same price if it doesn't work out. Low risk.

I started out with a used Ibanez RG 7421. I think that is a good one to start especially if you like Ibanez, then go up from there if you dig the extra 5 notes.

I seen thises. Very reasonably priced from what i remember. Im in the Chinese Resteraunt right now.. cant keep away from RT..

Seriously, do you want a Floyd or HT for the seven? How low do you plan on tuning to? I have several seven strings, and I tune to A standard the lowest. I can play a 26.5 scale, but I actually prefer a 25.5 scale.

I prefer 25.5 scale. I will probably only go a whole step down at lowest. Honestly i play in standard a lot these days vs downtuning. Floyd would be nice but if the right hardtail caught my eye that would be ok

There's a lot of freedom having an inexpensive guitar.
You might hate a 7 and then you're out all that cash.
Having a beater is cool because you can try a bunch of shit with it without worry.
In that pic I posted, the one on the left is by far the cheapest and it's the one I play the most. It has what I need. I put Pickups in it that I like.
The greeny on the right is the nicest and most expensive, but 3 knobs is in the way of my picking. If I could get it with 2 knobs, it would be happy days..

Agreed.. 💯 I love beaters I can just grab & throw back in the rack… I hate cases & all the extra fluff… The uglier the better ..
