Some riffs are reminiscent of old Cynic with a touch of Death circa Individual Thought Patterns in the middle just before the slide solo (!!!). The guitarist, Shinji Wajima, has the magic touch for heavy riffing IMHO.
The drummer sings too and he's not half-bad at it. This one has a kinda hard-rock, almost hair metal anthem feel. The solo at 1:57 is a display of pure guitar mastery
To tell the truth, I hated the vocals at first but they're an acquired taste to be honest. In the course of a few months of heavy listening, I went from "I hate it" to "I don't pay attention' to "I don't mind" to "finally it's not that bad" to "Hell, that's exactly how it should be". LOL
Yeah I love King Diamond too ! For a big part because of Andy LaRoque, who is an incredible guitarist. There has to be some awesome guitar playing in any case.
Funny, I liked his vocals right off the bat when I first heard them a while back. Their sensibilities on arrangements and the guitarists style and riffs are incredible. He’s a Japanese Iommi.
Guy's got some wicked lead tones. I'd be interested in his signal chain. Looks like a Superlead, but it's either modded or boosted.
This is why I love my SG Standard. They have an aggressive bite, and really have their own character, (that I happen to love). People who haven't played or owned an SG, you're missing out.
Signal path is various boosts into super-lead. Sometimes phaser/vibe. They've been quite big for quite some time but only in Japan. I talked about them to some random 50 years old japanese aquaintance of mine and he perfectly knew who they were forever it seems. He immediately told me "it's an old band". I guess it's hard to make it outside Japan when singing in japanese.
