Gonna take the paint off one of my guitars and use a tung oil finish. Is there a somewhat predictable outcome to how this will change the tone? Brighter, darker, etc... Tia!

With no paint or finish at all the guitar will sound woodier, more alive and resonant. But any kind of oil based finished needs to be carefully applied because too much will easily soak into the wood and dull the tone considerably. Not using enough is not enough protection for the wood so you have to get it just right.

Good luck

Man, I almost shit myself.

Darren, I've stripped and tung-oiled 3 of my IBZ guitars and it seems to make them a little brighter and more lively (livelier?).

I stripped one of the best sounding Charvels I ever owned and it turned it into a guitar that I put 15 different pickups into to try and make it sound as good as it did before I stripped the paint.

Oh, not good... Well I got 2 guitars and one is getting stripped. I'll definitely do the least best sounding one. These are rondos, so no big loss if it flops.... Lol!

My dads pretty creative. Once we painted a guitar metallic silver the he had some machine blow black smoke on it then he clear coated it. It looked very cool!

Back in the day my dad had an original pink paisley Fender Tele. He stripped it and said it sounded like complete shit afterwards. He eventually sold it. I said "well, look at it this way...at least it's not worth $20,000 now" lol.
