Taming the Tone Zone..

I recently grabbed one of those cheap SBS guitars, and it comes with those GFS SBS pickups. That thing sounds really good! I am thinking about picking up some other variations to try since you can just plug them in to change them.

The gfs invader sounds really close to a real one

IDK if that's a good thing, but it IS accurate

I tried a Tone Zone because the internet said it was the closest pickup to the EBMM Axis/EVH pickups(which I liked)...........

NOPE! Not even close. All the negative descriptions of the Tone Zone apply to my experience with it as well.

Can’t the forum software just auto censor the words Tone Zone when they’re placed together like that? I’m not one for censorship but sometimes the greater good has to prevail

Way way way back in the day...like HCAF glory days back in the day... I was experimenting with pickups in my Burny LPC Randy Rhoads; it came with the legendary VH-1 pickups, but I wanted more versatility.
Started with a JB/59 set, which was fine for awhile. Then I went the GFS route as one of the early adopters; Crunchy PAT bridge and Vintage '59 PAF neck.
Initially I preferred them over the Duncans...for a while. And then they started to... I dunno...un-amuse me. I felt like I realised I lost the Duncans' "resolution" for a lack of a better description. Especially that bridge pickup.
Since then, a whole bunch of Duncans and Dimarzios went through that guitar, after finally settling on an awe-fuckin-some combo; the Custom/59 Hybrid bridge and a Pearly Gates neck.

Long story short; no more GFS for me.
