i'm sure with a boost and a little eq i could use it for brootz easily...

this is a clip i did of john busbees legacy at our amp fest last year. no boost. i don't remember the settings, but most of the amps were at half on all the dials...
it's the fourth one on the list..
The amp will definitely effect how you play. I tend to play more lead type lines when I play my Mark III vs any of my other amps. It just has that natural smooth tone to it that begs to be played that way.Huffman83":3ri4n5z2 said:napalmdeath":3ri4n5z2 said:See, I want to become more of a lead player, and I think this amps will do it. I want a good, open lead tone, something that encourages me to concentrate on lead playing. Nice, thick, fluid leads TONE will motivate me. Get me off the heavy stuff, and become more of a player.

Sounds like it has more warmth/thump than even both the 6505 & 6505+ on the list. Could have been how it was EQ'd, IDK.

These settings are with the master up about at Dail Setting 1 where the pt's are part of the tone. The cab was my Uber cab(for all the clips), but I leave the settings the same for the Legacy cab. I usually run the Legacy/Uber stacks at the same time.
With eqing/boosting, I can get about 90% of the same tones out of the Legacy that I can get with the Uber. I'm totally happy with my tone and the capabilities I have with my rig. okay, pic post fail...how? Photobucket isn't the same as it was last time.
pretty true...I bought mine when they first came out. I have never even thought about trading it or getting rid of it. Like most amps, you can really change the tone by playing with pre tubes and parametric's in the loop. And that is without hitting the front with a boost. I like el34's, for what it's worth. I love this amp. If I could not have any other amp, this one could do anything I needed it to.napalmdeath":cuhd69df said:John Busbee":cuhd69df said:I don't think Steve changed my eq...I leave it pretty much gain 1 or 2 oclock, mids 11 or 10, bass 3, pres 5, treb 5 (5 is max). Wow, that's a pretty tall comparison. The amp intrigues me, especially since I can get a mint used one for $475. Much less than all the others on my radar. I just CAN'T try one!![]()

Maybe you can answer this, since I've emailed Carvin a week ago, and have asked here, to no avail. Is this amp fixed bias, like the Mesas, or do I need a tech to bias after tube changes?
John Busbee":1n3o3ybh said:if you want to get brootz out of this amp, listen to it first, tone wise. Swap a few pres to get what you like. I don't turn the gain all the way up, sometimes it gets too floppy (as does any amp), I have it around 7. Boost the front with whatever, tubescreamer, ds1, sd1, compressor....fine tune it in the loop (eq/comp)...you can gunk the walls down.

I've got an EQ, as well as a BBE Sonic Stomp, which REALLY tightens up bass, and adds punch. I've also got a TS9, and MXR Wylde OD. I'm tempted to snag that Legacy for $475 shipped!

I have a DSL now though and it's a much tighter and more aggressive amp. The Legacy is great for lead tones but like someone else said, a little too flubby for metal.
Not a bad amp at all, I'd own one again without hesitation. Very reliable too, more so than the DSL.

Yes, the amp needs to have the bias adjusted internally each time you swap power tubes.
