i have the d60. it is drier than the Mesa Roadster I had, no doubt, but not as dry as I thought it would be from forum rumors. but it doesnt matter, it sounds SO MUCH better than a Mesa, imo. The Roadster had 4 channels with 3 modes per channel, two rectifier modes per channel, two wattage levels per channel, and two overall modes, and I could never find a sound I liked. The VHT, on the other hand, has one channel, with basic eq, poweramp eq, and two gain modes, and almost every setting on it sounds great. the single channel thing doesnt matter unless you are playing stop/start clean/dirty stuff. you can set the amp to high gain and get really great sounding cleans with the knob. in fact, you can almost control the whole amp with your guitar knobs and the way you play. very articulate, very reactive to your playing style and pick attack. and yes, very loud for a 60. not a good bedroom amp. it has a whole lot of cut without being piercing or shrill. great cleans, marshall-eque crunch, or modern metal, depending on how you set it, imo. you can every single dial on the amp to noon and have a killer tone immediately. but yeah, it will force you to play better. i can set the gain all the way up, using high output active pups, in drop tuning, and still hear all the individual notes in a chord, still hear the angle my pick meets the strings, still hear how i fretted the note, still hear what a vibrating string sounds like. but it sounds HUGE. with my Mills cab, with the bass on 11 oclock and the depth on noon, thing punches you in the chest hard with bass. very open and organic sounding compared to engl's or a herbert.
in short, GET ONE
