Tell me all about the Suhr Aldrich.

Great pickup...but a bit too bright for an Alder guitar IMO

I found the Aldrich to be pretty balanced, articulate and pretty tight, but not particularly open sounding. I think its a bit compressed, but not hugely so. Like Blackba, I prefered the Andersons or a PRS Tremonti, which is almost as hot (but not quite) more open, not compressed at all, and just as articulate and clear sounding.
Not sure how it would do in Alder  Mine were mahog/maple
I have a reverse zebra set for sale if your interested - 150.00 for both

I think the JB is way more compressed than the Aldrich. Although, I have the stock 300K pot in my Les Paul. I'm getting ready to replace that with a 500K based on most peoples opinion that it responds better to the 500K. I've only used the Aldrich in my Les Paul. I have JB's and Duncan Distortion in my other guitars. Those are fine pickups, too.

Id get a 500K. I wouldnt say the JB is "way more" compressed sounding but I d agree that the aldrich is more open sounding.

I have mine in an alder strat body and its huge. Just like the JB I had in there but bigger and hotter. Big huge tight usable lowend and great definition for chording. Plus it drive the amp well for leads.

The EVO has great mids but the couple ive owned were the narrowest boxiest sounding pups ive ever heard. They drive well for leads but way too narrow and compressed sounding for rhythms. They are not simular at all if thats what youre asking. The aldrich has that big boutique sound

Thats what I found. Good leads, but not great on rhythm.

Hmm, I've found the JB to be a very 'airy' sounding pickup. I would attribute that to the 300k pot and not the pickup itself.

Never had a JB in a Les Paul. I also have a couple older ones and one that 3 or four years old. To me they sound different. Really, I've used the JB for over 20 years. It was my main pickup for many years. Mainly in guitars that are a brighter wood. I may have a little different opinion of the Suhr once I put the different pot in. But, even with the 300k, the Aldrich sounds more open.

I have both the Aldrich and JB pickup. The Aldrich sounds like an improved JB. It is less sterile, less compressed, and the low end is tighter.
