now we are having an issue. I banned a few that are legit....for some reason they are showing up as sharing i.p.'s and they are most certainly not doing that. Waiting for guidance right now. To any of you jabroni's I banned in error -I apologize....really I do...lol
Did you cross check user agent info, as well? If this information is the same they are certainly the same person, NAT or not.

Device fingerprinting can see right through a VPN service.

Everyone knows this.
So a VPN would automatically share IPs and change UA for each instance? That's pretty telltale. I thought the argument was about NAT anyway, not VPNs. It's be more interesting to see if they're coming back as IPv4 vs IPv6. That will tell you how full of shit the claims of being innocently caught in the crosshairs really is.

No, all a VPN service does is mask your IP address.. back in the early days we called this "IP spoofing".

"Device Fingerprinting" a.k.a "Browser Fingerprinting" collects information about browser settings, configuration, OS, screen resolution, fonts, time zone, plug-ins installed..

The only way to defeat this is by using a separate physical device for each account - in conjunction with a VPN service (or a separate physical location and device).

I thought I was going to have to use a VPN for my going away post on TGP but turns out all I had to do to create an alt there was use a different browser on my phone lol. I didn't even turn off my wifi

You’re quite the rebel!

It depends on what (if anything) the site admin/moderators are looking at (or looking for).

There's a contingent of user accounts on TGP that are clearly there at the behest of the site owner, and they do nothing but attack other members with mocking, negative responses.

The only reason for this would be to drive up traffic, and as a consequence, increase ad revenue.

Not sure the v4 vs v6 thing would yield anything and NAT is really only for internal networks, they still share the same public IP. I should say, the same ISP's public IP that was assigned to that router at install.

That said, I have 2 ISPs now and at least 2 phones on separate networks so I suppose I could have up to 4 alts if I wanted to :dunno:

But as I've said, I'm too busy in a real life to create that mess just so I can argue with myself or give high fives to myself

I’ve had a VPN service for a while so that I could watch regionally blocked videos. Seems like a waste for a gear forum lol

I think I saw a thread at rigtalk dot net talking about how that is a real thing. Including here. Seems counter productive though. You would think the cray cray part would drive away more users then it is worth :dunno:

Ie. Smart advertisers would put their money in smart 'healthy' places that don't have gifs of cartoon drawings of men in a 69 position.

Yeah, it would be a short-lived solution to a long-term problem (site traffic).

Not only does it alienate "real" members from participating, but the conflict between the disparate parties would be off-putting for uninvolved bystanders attempting to read the site.

You mean like the same ones that put dudes wearing lipstick in a dress on a beer can?
It certainly back fired IMO but I understood it that only a few cans were made like that and delivered to said person. So it's not like you can go to the store and find those cans. Whether the ABI stock/perception gets hit long term we will see in the long term. Personally, I thought it was a foolish move.

We have lost some really cool guitar players that used to post here due to this. So if a forum site owner was ONLY concerned with site traffic and therefore multiple user accounts "per IP" were allowed, then what's the point? So the same person (with multi alts) can see the same advertisement? In other words, they see the same ad on different devices means they are twice as likely to buy said product
