Here it is another week passed and a little more construction completed. Here you will see framing to finish out the side walls as well as to finish out the rear wall. This was nice because it only took Dave and myself to put up these walls.

I like the roll-away door for load ins and outs! Smart.

Hi Garey77. Thank you for taking the time to stop by and check this out. I'm also glad you like the idea of the door for load in and out. I really wanted this to be as user friendly as possible. If it wasn't for my friend Acacio, a drummer, I probably wouldn't have thought about this.

Man that looks sweet!! I would love to come check it out if I ever make it down that way for sure!!!

So here it is truss delivery day and scissor lift delivery day. Here is where you get to see Dave's precise engineering and attention to detail. When Dave had calculated all the trusses he ended up with two widths. The trusses that are vaulted came in at 37'9" and the horizontal trusses came in at 37'3". The vaulted trusses weighed 100 pounds each and the the horizontal trusses weighed 250 pounds each. These trusses are the exact width of each room. This meant that we were not able to stack the trusses like you would if you were building a house thus meaning each truss had to go up one at a time. Each truss is engineered to handle three layers of drywall.

Now here is where you get to laugh at me a bit...mostly because I deserve it. I had ordered up the scissor lift and since this was my first time renting one. I ordered a lift that was way bigger than necessary and it was stacking up to be to big to get in and up on to the floor due to the fact we didn't have a ramp that would hold the lift as we rolled it up to the floor. So I call the rental company to do an exchange for the one they suggested I needed which turned out to be the one I should have ordered in the first place. I'm always famous for ordering more than I need.

So in keeping with tradition...Dave, Anthony and Dan were all there to help get the materials in and essentially save my ass. As always it goes without saying that I am deeply indebted to these people for the kindness and generosity that they have extended to me. This was another brutal day of lifting trusses and on top of that the wind had kicked up on this day thus making things difficult to get these things in the building.

There is one picture with Dave leaning over the trusses with the look of either calculation or "oh shit...what have I got myself in to?". I personally think it was the latter. With the ultimate poker face I've ever seen on a person Dave didn't flinch at the task in front of him. If he was nervous on this day I sure wouldn't have known it.

Also, the correct scissor lift arrived and it was much easier to load on to the live room floor. I felt it was important to let Dave have first run at the scissor lift...besides...he deserved dibs on first run and it was a giant toy for him to play with.

Here are the pictures of the trusses and the important people that I am deeply indebted to for their help and kindness. I hope you enjoy them.

Hi Glynchfan1 (Joe). As always I like to say thank you to anyone that takes the time to stop by and check this out. I take it as a compliment that you're in awe. Also, thank you for the kind words. This is a time consuming process...especially when you're on a very limited budget. However, I'm fortunate to have so many awesome people in my corner. It is because of these people that this is getting accomplished.

I finally found some time to get back to posting pictures. What you will see this time is the vaulted end of the wall on the ground in sections in which Dave Del Valle and Anthony Rodriguez are going to place section by section on top of the 14 foot wall. We did it this way since we wouldn't be able to raise an entire section by itself...plus the limit of the scissor lift was 500 pounds.

In addition to this we tried to start placing trusses on the top of the walls. Since the trusses were the exact width of the room there was no way we could stack the trusses and then spread them out. We had to place them one at a time and then secure them. We started out doing OK with the first one and on the second one we started realizing that we were out of our comfort zone. We noticed that as we got more towards the middle of the room that things became more unstable. We made the collective decision to ask my friends Antonio and Marcello if they would be able to set aside some time to lend a hand. To me these guys were the most logical choice since they were the ones who assembled the metal building and they were extremely comfortable working up high.

This is as far as we got which was fine by me because no one got hurt.

Just awesome

Hi Fuzzyguitars. Thank you for the vote of confidence. I really have to say that it's all Dave's genius way of thinking that is getting things done. You can also see it in his workmanship of the triangular end piece. If you didn't see it before and as it went up you would think it's one big piece as opposed to several smaller pieces. Thank you for continuing to stop by. :)

Here it is another round of accomplishments. We now have the trusses for the live room in place. This would not have been possible without the help of Antonio Mireles and Marcelo. Me and Dave promptly realized that we were out of our comfort zone in placing the remaining trusses and so I asked Antonio if he would be able to lend a hand and coordinate this. He said yes and when he showed up he quickly assembled a brace to stabilize the trusses which made them easier to maneuver. The trusses weighed about 100 pounds but due to the nature of the shape they were awkward and difficult to put in to place. We couldn't stack them the way you would if you were building a house because the width of the walls and the width of the trusses were exactly the same. At one point we were running out of space to spin the trusses and we had to suspend the trusses from the I-beams of the metal building so we could angle the truss to get one side up and then raise the other side. With Antonio and Marcelo calling the shots and making things look effortless me and Dave did our part as the assistants. Watching Antonio and Marcelo maneuver on the scissor lift in the air and manipulating the trusses was truly amazing to me. This is becoming more of a building inside of a building. All of the walls are decoupled from the shell and are not touching the I-beams at all. The one thing that I need to make sure is said is how grateful I am for the help of Antonio and Marcelo. These are two amazing people and I'm super grateful to have such awesome friends. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

Here it is another week of putting trusses on top of the walls. These trusses weighed in at 250 pounds each and are 37'3" wide. This was another job that I needed to ask for help from my friends Antonio Mireles and Marcelo. These two guys took an even more difficult job and made it look like it was nothing. In addition to the trusses being heavy there was also the seven degree slop at the top of the walls that had to be dealt with at the same time. On this day Antonio and Marcelo were the men in charge and Dave was the second in command while is was the low man on the totem pole. I have to give credit to Antonio, Marcelo and Dave because they really are ingenious people when it comes to projects like this. Until next time...
