I’ve had my SG since 93 brand new . This is getting mounted on my grave

Never cared for SGs. Feels like the neck is sticking way out of the body.
 
Because it is. Effortless upper fret access. Firebirds are even weirder to play for the first little bit imo, but once you get used to them very few guitars feel as effortless to play.
I'm with you on this. The Gibsons that have the strap button on the neck heel are more comfortable to play for my tastes.

Yeah it definitely is a bit weird playing my SG after my Les Paul because it feels like I'm looking at the back of the neck instead of down. Definitely is comfortable to play though. Every Gibson I pick up is familiar to my hands. As soon as I grab one it just feels like me.
 
Is your explorer the same way? With the first fret way out there like the SG?

The Explorer does come with its own challenges. The upper part of the body comes up quite high, kicking your picking arm out a bit while sitting. Took me a while to get used to each. Love em both.
