The Rev F is still the greatest high gain amp ever made.

My Rev C is the best amp I've ever owned. Just magnificent, if the recto tone is what you're after. I only wanted $$ tied up in one "mesa tone"and this sent an original C+ packing. From a purely tone perspective, I don't regret the decision in the slightest. The only reason I regret selling the C+ when I did, is so I could sell it for more $$$$ now.

Now this is a man’s ears I can trust right here….

Awesome, as always. How do you run the DT? I've been keeping the bass not far from minimum, works well for thick amps.

Thanks brotha. I run it in TC mode literally 100 percent of the time. Always. I run the bass at zero with most “modernish” style pickups, and the treble and level at noon. It’s pretty set it and forget it to me with modern high gain tones like this. I love using my PRS custom 24 with the 85/15s and just nudging the bass control up ever so slightly just to thicken it up a tad, but generally everything else it’s always off completely.

However, the pedal doesn’t get near the credit it deserves for other tones. It’s phenomenal for edge of breakup/crunchy tones as an input shaped like in the same vein as using it with the recto but for low gain stuff. Bass up a bit with the lower gain stuff and it’s pure magic at times, especially in front of the xtc. Really phenomenal stuff, I should post some clips of that.

The DT doesn’t always work, but when it does, nothing beats it. It’s unreal sounding when it’s in front of the right amp. It seems it was made for these two amps right here.

My Triple F was a phenomenal amp. I was never very good at capturing on the mic how the F through MW tones sounded in the room, though. I know it was me. They always sounded an order of magnitude thinner on the mic.

As good as the F was it can't touch my Rev C in the band mix because of the rawness & where the upper mids sit. Honestly now that I know I need to be using Marshall style speakers with it & not V30s, there's not really any other Mesa can touch the Rev C in the live band. While I like my Mark II Colis best still for home & recording, there's no question that for me the Rev C owns the live mix. The best band pairing so far is with Redbacks followed by greenbacks followed (more distantly) by T75s.

I came in here to say almost this exact thing! I think a big part of that insane tone is due to the DT (or any TCP variant for that matter). There is nothing else like that combo. I couldn't believe how awesome it was when I first tried it for myself. Inspiring to play all day.

Alright let me ask you guys something about the Dirty Trees. With a preface.

If I had a buck for every time I've heard everyone rave about the latest boutique boost pedal, then watch a whole bunch of them go up for sale over the next 6 months, I'd be.. well, not rich but I could probably buy some new tubes.

From what I can tell the latest must have boutique boost pedal is the DT. Fortunately I see used ones up for sale every week so getting one should be easy. I would like to try one however a) see above and b) every time I've tried the cool kids boost pedal in the past, even ones that were pretty amazing in the bedroom, still nothing has yet to knock my lowly OD1X off the top of the hill in the band mix.

So, what is it about the DT that makes it so good?

I sold my DT the other day. It was pretty good, but had too much of that sterile/filtered pedal sound to me. Guys will laugh at me here, but I much preferred my Fortin TS’s and even the Dino. For metal the only boosts I’d use these days would be the latest Fortin TS 808 (and I’m a Fortin hater) or my Audioarts 4100 Rack PQ. That being said the DT was pretty good and imo much better than the Fortin 33. With Recto’s especially I think nothing beats (or matches) my Fortin TS808, not even my original Klon. It’s a much better pedal overall no doubt the Klon, but not necessarily with those amps

I’ve been using them for over 2 years, and it’s about the only overdrive I use these days.

There are certain things that actually DO come along and are actually that good, the DT is one of them. A few modern metal producers who make outstanding sounding records have been raving about them for a few years, it’s not really new. But what did happen, is guys like fluff and other dudes with a solid YouTube following started doing the same. Including Ben eller, who is another one that absolutely can be trusted in my opinion for sure. His video with his recto is no bullshit, straight to the point, and he will tell you that once again mark Lewis and a few other producers are right, it really is the best pedal on earth for the recto or amps like that.

Like I said, it doesn’t work with everything. Do not plug it into an OG 5150 or 5153 and expect it to sound good, it won’t, and then you’ll think it sucks and think it’s all hype haha. Amps like rectos, Uberschalls, hell maybe even the SLO, it works wonders on due to the filtering (or lack there of actually) in the front end of the amp. It works well with some amps that Are reasonably filtered too like the driftwood purple nightmare, Herbert, and KSR colossus. In a nutshell it essentially does with a pedal what you often due to scoop out the mud in the midrange post EQ in the studio: a nice big cut somewhere around 250-300hz. That’s the sound in a nutshell. It’s more than that, but if you know what that sounds like, it’ll get you in the ballpark.

The DT is what the fortin 33 wishes it was, but never sounds NEARLY as good. I couldn’t sell my grind and 33 fast enough after hearing the DT. It really is that much better. Mark and some of the others will tell you, they have done numerous true blind shoot outs with pro guitarists in the studio, and not one time, literally ever, did someone pick the 33 or one of the other 6 TC electronic clones ( including 2 Real ones) over the dirty tree… take it for what it’s worth.

At the end of the day, if you like any of the tones I’ve posted in this thread l, you’ll love the dirty tree. It’s impossible to get these sounds without a pedal like this.

To me, the magic of the DT is in exactly how the EQ dials are tuned. The bass knob cuts the perfect amount of low end that removes exactly enough flub while retaining exactly enough thickness, while the treble knob boosts the exact frequencies to maximize clarity, detail, and gain, but never goes full-on djenty half-cocked wah, or makes your tone honky. It’s just a great clean boost that is exceptionally good at maximizing clarity and tightness while avoiding making your guitar sound hollow or anemic. It just boosts and cuts exactly what it should and nothing it shouldn’t.

I love mine.

Edit: I’ll echo what VESMedic said as well in that it does pair best with amps that have minimal low end filtering in the preamp, because the DT’s low end filtering is so good on its own.

Yep, exactly. The other clones just get it wrong and cut way too much girth. This guy somehow managed to get it 100 percent right, no clue how he did, but he did. The eq curve couldn’t be better for tightening everything up but still being just as thick.

Haha it’s just a clickbait title of course! But yes, 100 percent kidding. Although for me, especially in a track, it very rarely gets beat by another amp I own, they just sound so insane on tape, really amazing.

How wonderful, clickbait title.

I agree . It’s magical . I just got another wizard . I wanted one with 6l6s . To test against my el34 MTL2. The bass was different on the 6l . But with DT it’s perfect. Bassier amps sound best with DT . And also agree about the 5153 . I find most boosts odd with it including DT

Oh mannnn you gotta make a clip of the wizards with the DT, would love to hear that. EL34s always have a more punchy low end in the low lows than 6L6s to me, even the 6L6s have a perceived bigger bottom end. The el34 down low is the king, I bet it’s sick with those amps.

I sometimes want my old Uber back, I just didn’t feel like the low end was nearly as good to me personally. It definitely had alot of it, but it just felt like it was more in the sub lows than in the gut punch area like the recto is. But I’ve learned a lot since I owned one, maybe worth revisiting.
The Uber is a cool different flavor , I like it . See how some don’t

Best explanation I've seen yet (y)

I'll echo one last time that the pedal does NOT sound good with every amp. It shines and sounds best with amps that have excess flabby bass, most particularly, the Mesa Rectifier.
