The brand spanking new red-headed SLO arrived today. It has the Hayne's, DeMartini scoop, and Depth factory mods. This is the best amp I have ever had the pleasure of plugging a guitar into and works for me in every way. Big, thick, thumpy, grinding, crunching rhythms and smoking hot leads with no fucking about. All this, and I haven't even replaced the SOVTEK 5881's yet!

I will be updating the Amp Carnage Sale listings when I get time and I will set up for some clips. I can tell you all this....every other amp I own is for sale, and I mean all modded Marshall's. Those of you that know what I have, feel free to PM me decent offers until I get updated. I think I can get some stuff back to the US too.

Going back into the cave right now and disturb the peace and destroy the silence.

When I put some Winged 6l6's in my SLO it really didn't help. Dare say the Sovtek's give the SLO a nice crunch factor.
My Tung Sol 5881's are staying in there!

Steve hold into those other Amps too unless you need the cash.

Not sure why this thread is giving me gas for a slo...
If you are like me you have had recurring paind for awhile. Now with that said, if you like the SLO, you would like a Cornford MK100 even more. If the CCV doesn't work out for me this is what I am having built.

Why do I see threads like this, then I'll see one where the SLO gets dogged hard? I usually hear that the FX loops on them suck, often read that they're useless unless they're soo loud the paint is peeling off your wall and that the input doesn't take OD pedals that well. And to be honest I don't hear many good clips from them, the good stuff I hear from an SLO is the pros like Haynes and Gary Moore where they are no doubt blasting them loud.

I've played 2 SLO's and both of them were screwed up, they were in GC after all. I gotta give one a whirl one of these days, one that works that is.

You are very right they like volume .... they like to be at drum-set volume. "paint is peeling" is not really needed. As long as the poweramp is kicking in they do OK in my ears.

What works for some simply does not for others. I think the SLO is a great amp, but I was never able to get a sound out of it that made me want to spend that kind of money.

I went through several amps before trying a modded Marshall from Dave Friedman, and that was it! I had Dave do another amp for me with a different flavor, and that has cured my amp GAS.

Lord knows Steve has burned through some cash finding "his sound", and now he can hopefully recoup some money.

Call me crazy, the SLO is an awesome amp, but I much prefer a Splawn QR....

I was going to get this one in Snake. Figured I would get tired of it quick. I don't care much for red to be honest either.....Will get a black shell somewhere along the way. the dealer I got it from stocks 5 or 6 different color shells and changes them for free. Big bargain

Steve

Would that be JLB at Blues City Music?
Great guy - I just bought a SLO from him last month.

Ive been waiting for this Steve! Congrats and I really thought you would love the amp!!

Ran across this...the SLO can sound quite decent at low volumes

I'm curious, is this your first SLO?

Yes
Wow that surprises me, looks like youv'e had everything else. The Slo is special for sure, nothing sounds or responds like a SLO. I've owned one for 16 years and although I don't always play it I can't see it going anywhere. Congradulations. Here's a clip I did at low volume........ https://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... Nah, I don't want them Todd. They will all be for sale, the one's here anyway. It's not the money, it is more about finally finding the amp that leaves you with the feeling that this is the one and that was instantaneous too. I have one amp yet to be delivered - The Kitchen Sink from Dave. Some of the other mods I have I would consider the best of the best that Marshall's can get. Still, it is such a relief to unbox and amp, plug it in, spend a minute twisting knobs, then play. All this without getting the tubes out, swapping power/pre tubes to get it right, swapping cabs/speakers and other constant tweaking. Fuck that. Mark's Jose and Aldrich mods come near giving one the same "oh shit" feeling, but not the same. Anyway, it is what I was after and I do wish I had jumped on the Soldano wagon long ago.

Someone mentioned the Soldano FX loop. I haven't tried it yet, and honestly, I don't give two shits about an FX loop on an amp anyway. Most of my amps don't have them and its not a requirement for me. As for the amp volume - one thing I do have going is the man cave being fairly well insulated, so I can wank away at some pretty hefty volumes anyway, same as when gigging and that's not an issue. If I were forced to be at bedroom volume all the time, I wouldn't buy this amp or anything else I own. But, the SLO is one amp that gets better, the more you twist the volume, that is for damn sure. When the other amps are starting to bake, the SLO is just shifting gears man. It gets bigger, more rounded as the volume goes up, without the familiar thinning and loss of articulation that most amps suffer.

Blue City Music, Memphis TN. Lynn Burke has been an SLO dealer for years and has selection. Great dude to work with and will see to it that you are hooked up. He pre-orders his spec amps with the factory mods too. And again, these do make a difference, a lot of difference in the EQ structure of the amp.

Steve

Love mine, it's not going anywhere. Every guitarist should own one at least once. Depth mod located on rear in place of the Line Out control. Haynes mod internal and always on, no switch needed.

hmm, this is one amp I have yet to play, and I've been through a bunch too. You're making me gas to try an SLO Steve. Congrats on finding "your" sound though, that's an awesome feeling.

That's exactly the position I was in Eric. Looking around the cave yesterday at the Hedge O' Marshall Mods, I just did the old double palm face plant, and couldn't believe the number of amps, time and money I went through to get here. Plug and play man. There's a lot of Marshall in this amp, it just stays together when you twist the volume. I will buy a second one.
