my sister took me to my first concert on this tour and i remember thinking this part was so cool where they act like they’re playing while the volume drops out

and this guy is huge

He's done a lot of session work. Steely Dan among many others. Dude is a bad ass and epic in bass player circles. He did Kid Charlemagne.

I know that he's been everywhere, but is he a known songwriter is what I was getting at.

I know there aren't a lot of jazz musicians on here, me included but we are 4 pages in and no one has mentioned Jaco Pastorius

For me: Dug, Tal, Jaco and Tony Levin. I kinda doubt anyone under 30 knows who the hell any of these people are. Also, one I bet most people don't know: Joie Calio. Solid bass player and vocalist.

Off topic, but I love the guitar solo on that song. The whole album is probably my favorite, although I like Gaucho a lot too.

Suicidal Tendencies era Robert Trujillo
Michael MacIvor
Rex Brown
Jason Newsted
Dusty Hill, that sonofabassplayer could downright boogie. RIP

I think many rhythm guitarists are underrated. So are keyboards in metal bands that have them...

I still remember, probably in the mid to late '80s, when keyboard players weren't considered part of the band just bit players, but were on many songs live and in the studio. (Ozzy comes to mind, with Don Airey on the early albums IIRC)

Many rhythm guitarists go unnoticed; same for keyboards especially in metal. Early solo Ozzy, Don Airey played on the recordings and went on tour, but was not in the band, band photos, etc.. which was common around that time.
