OK....so I have no single coil guitars...if I love Blackmore, what should I consider (that isn't an overpriced sig).....didn't he use stacked humbuckers??

Suggestions pls.

On some of his strats he used the Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders. I hated them, not noise cancelling.

Yeah...that would kinda suck.

I have a strat, but I'm more of a Gibson/Humbucker guy. Every time I walk into a music store, they have a huge selection of strats. How different are they all, outside of the obvious? (maple/rosewood fingerboard, HSS/SSS, colors, headstocks, etc). What are some of your favorite strat models?
Now that I think about it, I play my strat more than all of my other guitars, since its tuned to standard and all of my gigging guitars are 1/2 flat.

I know this applies to a lot of guitars, but especially with Strats....you have to play the individual guitar. I have played some piece of crap vintage strats that they wanted $15000 for, and I have played some sweet Squire models that I would have no problem with being my main guitar.

I use the EMG David Gilmour DG20. With the EXG and SPC tone controls it is very versatile.

Yeah...my experience of Strats in the past has been one of extreme variability.

I had an older Squier Bullet (my first guitar) that I would have put up against many pos todays models and one's I tried since.

Have to admit I'm a fan of the olympic white..and the RB look...it's what I grew up on so to speak....I do love a Maple board too.

^This. It seems really good ones make almost any pickup sound good and bad ones suck no matter what you do.

A Treble Booster is more important in going for a Blackmore sound than any particular pickups

Definitely should just play a bunch. I seriously have Squiers that I like better than most custom shop Fenders I've played. Of course most Squiers feel like cheap guitars because they are. But for whatever reason some of them are great. And so are some custom shops.

I have a Blackmore strat that I bought in June and had it professionally set up. It is in perfect shape and I love the scalloped neck. I am selling it if OP is interested.

I got mine for $1199. I bought a Fender hardshell case for it and spent $130 on the set up as it was horrible out of the box. Now it plays like butter. These go used for $900 or so. If that is in your budget let me know and I can take some pics. My email is revolutionswitch@mac.com.

I needed a stat too and have one coming next week! Can't wait!

i want one of the new esp strats. thinking about trying out one of those slick brand gfs strats.

I have a couple of them. I prefer the American Deluxe models... I had a custom shop and sold it because I just didn't get along with it and really felt like the American Deluxe were better.

I also had an SRV for a little while... also no go. Traded it on the Carvin 7 string.

I was on the cusp of selling my G&L Tribute (with two humbuckers) and getting a Fender Shawbucker Strat. Then my friend was like, why would you get rid of the awesome G&L instead of just installing some single coils? I thought to myself, "what a great idea!". The G&L guitars are basically like an improvement on the classic strat anyway so why not?
