Man you guys are killing me. Showing your age, too as some of the brands you're mentioning are long gone, and were so even before I got into the game in my early 20's.
My best friend when I was younger was SUPER into the stereo thing right out of high school. He was definitely a mark for Rockford Fosgate, but by this time, there were lready much better players on the scene. I bought my first system off him, 2 Fosgate P1s in a Rockford enclosure, way undersized for any reasonable driver, as all of the pre built ones are.
I quickly decided those weren't enough, and sprung for a pair of Kenwood KFC something or others that had twice the power handling. Those lasted me a short while until I decided I wanted to go all Alpine, and bought 2 brand new Type R 12 subs and an M1000 Amp for them. That was my setup for a long time.
Years later, I got back into it after selling those items off when needing money, and there was some newer stuff on the scene. Sundown audio seemed to be the hot shit in my area, and I picked up 2 SA12 drivers and a Soundqubed 1500 watt amp. Good lord, did that put the commercial stuff to absolute shame. I did, however, have to replace my battery under the hood and install an additional battery in the trunk in order to keep my alternator from shitting the bed.
That was all a lot of fun, but eventually I had to remove it to make more trunk space for guitar and drums. Haven't really been tempted to go back to it because I now listen to more podcasts than music, and piss my neghbors off enough in my residential area with my all day guitars and drums, LOL
