Get the MXR 10 band or if ya wanna go ritz get the [Whirlwind] Perfect10 and stick it in the back loop of any amp you own before you start down the path of changing tubes, speakers, cabs, yada yada....

There it is.
Thank me later.
Or just do it and forget I mentioned it.
But trust me - it'll fix [almost] everything

Cheers,
Mo

Yep. I like the 6band as last in line before my clean amps...

and I like the Source Audio EQ in the loop of my VH4...the great thing about the Source Audio is that it has 4 separate settings you can change via MIDI.

So each channel of my VH4 gets its own setting...that I don't have to mess with, my channel switcher (Peak) switches EQ AND channels all with the same click.

I've also got an old Brimar in V1. So there's that. hahaha

But what if you have a 10 band in the loop and are still swapping tubes and speakers

Btw Mo, I just put one of those Gold Lion 12AX7 (Genalex made in Russia) in the v1 slot of the Slax... not sure if it's placebo effect or what but I swear it sounds fuller and added a bit of bass in a good way. Gonna pick up more and try them in my other amps. Good stuff!

Yeah but how will you flip 40 marshalls and get mad forum cred if you just make what you have work?

been using this for that purpose for the last year or so, but had it forever. Makes using backline cabs so much easier.

A 10 band in the loop is a far greater tone shaping tool than most will ever know.

Any love for the Empress ParaEQ? I’ve been itching to get one for quite a while now but I can never find anyone that’s tried one out.

I have one. Very powerful EQ. Probably more than my brain can handle lol.

I’ve been going back and forth on selling it. I think the amps I have don’t need it or idk how to use it the right way.

Please let me know if you decide to hand it off?

Does it introduce much noise? I've wanted to use graphic EQ's in the past and always ran into noise issues. The new MXR 10 band has enticed me because of the reports on lack of noise. However, mine is going into a rack, so a rackmount unit would be really nice. The 1/2 rack unit would be even better!

i always thought it was silly to not have a EQ around, even more so now that ive been recording

You know who loves and uses MXR 10 bands in his loop?.....Mailman...(sigh)...

This was one of my first and most important discoveries when I started playing. My first real amp was a Peavey Bandit, and I used this thing in the loop. Ghetto but effective.

that's why I use this one. It's pretty much dead silent. I tried a GE-7 and an MXR 6 band first, but they were a bit noisy.

Been doing this for years. It’s like fine tuning your amps eq.

I love mine, had the Boss 7 band, MXR 10 band, and Mesa 5 band and found after while I would get sick of them. Got the Empress, so much tweaking but after a while I found a sweet spot. Expensive but I think its worth it

Ya the Genalex ECC83 is a mighty fine V1 preamp bottle. Svetlana's new 12AX7s are also pretty smooth. And as always - an LPS or EiYugo in the PI slot goes a long way to adding grunt and punch.

I've got the GL-ECC83 - Svets - LPS in my Slax. HAMMAH-TIME!!!!!

As for the EQs, don't get all fucking TGP here Folks, fuck, just get the silver MXR 10 band and be done with it - Constant Q is all theoretically fine and shit - but when ya spill beer (or in my case, soda and lime) all over it ya won't be freaking out as they're half the price of a Whirlwind.

I found older EQs to be noisy - the new lineup of EQs (MXR included) are really awesome. YMMV.

But GET AN EQ INTO YOUR LOOP - and while you may not garner mega forum cred for having an arsenal of amazing amps, you'll be busy actually playing (you may have noticed my silence as of late, ahem....).

The EQ - it's indispensable - I dangle it...all my amps have the "EQ dangle" on the front now

Peace
Mo

Having gone through tons of EQ's, for the last few years I've had the Perfect 10 right before hitting the amp input (with a frown EQ curve). Then I have the Mesa 5-Band graphic eq as first in the loop (with a nice V smile). I couldn't imagine not having them, sounds bland without.
