I just saw them with Soundgarden at Red Rocks and it was one of THE MOST impressive shows I've ever seen.

Look.. You can play your "fill in the blank" metal amp with your 7,8,9 string, djent the fugg out of it and think you've achieved the heaviest that heavy can be, but it will not even come close to how heavy some parts of Downward Spiral were, are, and always will be, fuckos.

Exhibit A: Reptile

excellent example. that's as dungeon as it gets (other than the thing that should not be by metallica). both of which are in D.

with those backup singers?? the visuals look cool but not sure about the weak setlist. was it really that good? I was thinking about hitting the Irvine CA show...

btw i saw revco open for ministry and trust me it was badass hard rock. 4 singers or so with jourgensen on guitar. fun fun fun.

I also just saw them both nights at Redrocks and in Vegas back in November. Seriously one of the best live shows I've ever seen. NIN has never disappointed me live. They are just as awesome now as they were when I saw them live for the first time during the fragile era tours.

problem is the tix are expensive like at least $150 each for decent seats.

it's that show or Beck/ZZ top...

Man, Pretty Hate Machine sounded so damn good in my truck when I was a teenager. I had an S-10 pickup with one helluva stereo system.

The are all creative and excellent musicians. Things change. Be sure to let us know which venue you will be headlining.

Love all the mandatory thread visitors who come just to day 'they suck'... lame post is lame
Haven't been very huge on NIN since the fragile, but my father in law absolutely loves them. I can't say I really vibe off the new direction they have been going but whatever ya know, I have a bunch of old amazing NIN records to keep me company.

female backup singers sucks no matter what unless you're floyd or sade... thx for coming.

I think the backup singers were just a way for Trent to get out of his comfort zone as well as to get out of the somewhat strict routine that NIN had become (he mentions something to this effect in the interview after the show). I agree with Brent, that post Fragile NIN wasn't really my bag, but I'm glad to see Trent is taking some risks, even if it is with the seemingly out of place backup singers.

He's in a different place these days (has a family) and I'm glad to see he isn't taking himself as seriously as maybe he did in the past. He's given himself permission to let the songs breathe a little more and take shape organically with less of his highly analytic way of editing songs. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I like that he is opening himself to new ways of approaching songwriting, because he's one hell of a creative architect/sound engineer! The reason why he said NIN was going to stop touring was because things gotta rather stale at X point in the tours...I'd love to hear him go in more of an Aphex Twin direction with some twisted industrial sounds combined with organic instruments in the mix...more textures and more room for the songs to breathe, but hey that's me...

That's supposed to be heavy? I guess it works for something like the soundtrack to a Saw Movie. Still not my thing when I think of heavy.

Yeah tickets aren't cheap, but they were personally worth it for my wife and I. We didn't pay anywhere near $150 per ticket though. We also had fantastic seats at Red Rocks for both nights. Night 1 our seats were dead center row 4 while night 2 we were a bit off-center in row 3. That's pretty much front row for Redrocks. I paid $108 per ticket through the NIN fan club presale (which is free to join too). I'd gladly pay that again to see NIN play at such a quality venue with an awesome band like Soundgarden. Especially from the setlist differences between both nights. But, YMMV.

I was listening to the new album earlier tonight. I like it, but it isn't as edgy or angry as he previous work.

it needs to be angry and edgy that's the problem

once again: female backup singers WTF?

Hard to be angry and edgy once you've made it and have the cash to lessen what one is angry about. :)
"Head like a hole, my fillet isn't sole, and where's my designer water!
I feel so out of control!"
SINGERS: "He's SOOOOOO out of controoooolllll!"

<insert digital noise due to feeding +10db into a digital input>

Just for record, I am a fan of NIN.

one of the best bands touring right now

change your diaper

Reading al jorgensons book. Hilarious hazing of Trent. You guys gotta read this book. Just the story of el Duce from the mentors is worth the price of the book.

Pretty hate machine is still a top ten cd.

Really? I would say that I would read that, but I never will...what did Al have to say about Trent?

NIN have always pushed forward - sorry if you can't keep up.
Too much bitching & moaning in this thread.
FACT - they have been & always will be 1 of the most progressive rock bands of all time. They aren't here to sell 40 million records & please everyone. If you didn't feel a bit uncomfortable & some people didn't hate it, it wouldn't be NIN

what's the name of al's book? I'm a big ministry fan. loudest band i've seen live.

NIN always sucked...bacd then and again today...same as it ever was LOL
