Upon my first listen I was a bit disappointed, I must say. But then as I was listening to it a few times a few thoughts occurred to me:
First, he's using his standby Diezel and not his whole rig...so his sound is a bit limited. Next, he's probably trying to keep it "normal" for the folks that are there and at home. And third, there are bits that are classic Adam...and like most of his music, you have to listen to it a few times before it sinks in and you like it...which I think is very appropriate and so totally Adam.
I believe that I did hear signature Adam sounds at the following points:
:21, :40, :57, :1:04, 1:06, 1:11, 1:15-1:27 (unison bends), 1:49-1:53, 1:59, and 2:04...basically littered if you really listen.
I think if you're not a Tool fan and you only listen to it once, you probably won't really like it....wow, big shock. However, if you know Adam's playing you'll find reason to like it. For me, after several listens...I do like it and I'm glad he did it, and glad he did it this way. Awesome.
And before anyone calls out fan boy with this or any other retarded internet spelling...yes, it's true. I know it, and I'm not embarrassed in the least, so you can save it. I love Tool and Adam's work...and so I may be completely biased.
