Tool's Adam Jones performs the National Anthem

I like Tool ... but many know Adam is not a great guitar player. He is very good at what he does ....
I have seen the song done by many people better ..... but did not think it was all that bad at all.

Wow. Lots of hate for Tool and Adam Jones here. Weird....Tool still sells out colosseums even with no new album since '06...and have been doing so since the early '90's and all of their piers are gone. They must be doing something right. Maybe it's just this board, me thinks, yes....

I like riff-meister Adam Jones and his contributions to TOOL....but, didn't think much of that at all....pretty basic and forgettable. I much prefer the recently showcased YJM performance in Florida.

Or maybe......it was just that one performance? :dunno:

Maybe...give the guy a break, he was playing the National Anthem for fun at an event he is a fan of. There's not a lot of wiggle room and you're not going to make everyone happy, I guess. Or maybe it just boils down to who you like and what your taste is...personally, I don't think that Slash did anything with the Anthem that I couldn't do and Yingwee was a joke and half-shell. But then, I don't care for Slash and Yingpee so It wouldn't matter what they did.

Someone is proudly waving their "Fan-boi Flag" high as hell for everyone to see! Relax man, not everyone will share your high regard for AJ. No need to spaz-out over it. I didn't think a whole lot about Slash's video either, although I'd take it over AJ's. I like AJ, Slash, and YJM on some level...but, I don't take it personal if someone has issues with either one. Your blind allegiance for AJ is practically coming out of your eyes, for fuck's sake.

All true, my friend, all true. Lol. Thanks for the reality check, time-out, come-to-jebus. Truth be told, even though Slash's music isn't my bag...his solo's are some of the best I've ever heard and he plays with heart. YJM can shred, I'll give him that...and he did become famous for a reason. Not that my opinion means a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things. I'm usually very mild mannered...so I apologize for my offensive comments. A friend stopped by and I've had too much wine :(.

So let me brake down peoples opions on this performance by age...

Early 20's or younger thought it sucked because there was not enough excessive arpeggio sweeping.

Late 30's and 40's crowd thought it sucked because there was not enough finger tapping

Late 20's to 30's crowd thought it was awesome just because it was Adam Jones never mind the playing.

Over 50 crowd is at TGP posting about Dumbles and they dont care.

Bullshit response, has NOTHING to do who was doing it but the final product. I think you may be remembering the Yngwie vid that was up yesterday and all the demographics you mentioned liked it.

I remembered this version from 1991 I was so impressed with it, please tell me where the shred starts and stops.................

MUsicianship is musicianship regardless of demographics, instruments, or school you attended to build your chops.

Honestly the Whitney Houston version owns all when it comes to this.

Edited to add link... since I dont see the embed for some reason..

Also I am not afraid to admit I am too huge of a Adam fanboy to give a honest unbiased opion on this performance.

I thought it was awesome. What I found most shocking was AJ's participation in the "National Anthem", as c'mon, he's been fairly open about his 'political opines' regarding the US on more than ONE occassion (ahem).

But hey, fun event, fun stab at an old favorite... I thought it was just that, fun.

I liked his spin on it... Sounded better than some blues'esque spin on it, or some bee-bop boy band hootin' it out.

Whatever. He's Adam Jones, we're not. He plays for a world renowned band to millions of fans, we don't. End of story... \:D/

What does that have to do with playing sloppy on the National Anthem? There's dozens of guys here that I honestly believe would do a better job with it.

I'm sure there are, but they weren't invited to play the NA at the WWE, were they? Membership has its priviledges, and in this case, the priviledge to play it any which way he wants with his own style is because he IS Adam Jones of TOOL.

Whatever...

And the fact that he's in a successful band and has been playing guitar for a living for over 20 years makes you scratch your head when he shows up and sounds like a kid in Guitar Center. Not hating, just observation.

There's only so much you can do with it, I suppose it was like "ya, whatever, this could be cool, I'll play it... whatever", it wasn't a "career defining moment", know what I mean? He's not a fan of the US political engine, he's not a fan of the US overall, and it's a f*ckin' wrestling event!!

I mean, this is NOT the place to exhibit one's immense and incredible discipline and craft

I know yer not a hater, I just love using that photo whenever I can :D
