Torn on a Gibson LP

Wait till you find one you can play in person. Artsy pics don’t tell you shit.
I always thought it would be cool to be able to afford to fly to a known store that has the crazy big selection and spend the day finding one but a wistful thought is all that is.

Why can’t you?

I'm buying the LP is lusting after from that guitar shop just to spite him/her. LOL

I'll meet you in Nashville and spend a couple hours demoing Gibsons. Wife was just saying she wanted to go back. Need a show to work around...

We don’t agree on much but this is 100% correct. All of my keepers I played first to check for dead wood. The only exceptions were my norlins which were completely refretted/rewired/new nut/etc. due to age and rarity.

As always with Gibsons; Try before You buy. I’ve seen so many shit quality Gibsons and returned a few due to poor finishing after buying them unseen and I won’t do it anymore. When finding a good Gibson, buy it immediately, they’re magical.

There is an additional thing regarding Gibsons and Tune-O-Matics/Stop Tailpieces: seems like all my Gibsons have a different sweet spot for the tailpiece height where the guitar comes alive. ☺️

So, been giving serious thought to a new LP standard and dig the double troubles. Curious what you guys think about the back on this one. I wouldn’t be able to play it before buying. Top is amazing, which is what grabbed me but I’m not feeling the look of the wood of the body. Thinking about resonance and all that. Wish I could play it in person to dispel any concerns. Do you think excessive grains and potential knots matter at all?

You dont see that a lot.
It is $200 cheaper than a Standard though...

Not sure if thats the guitar you would get, but the top has some character.

I was looking at these since they were announced at NAMM, but when they finally came out I wasn't a fan of the color on the back in the stock photos. This one looks really good all around, including the back. I think knots are a bigger problem with acoustics. One of my '01 Standards has a spot like that on the back and it's been fine.
In my mind, not that I would be correct, but I'd consider knots "dead spots" affecting resonance?
Maybe they'd fuck with sustain?

Also, maybe thats too "tan pants" of as thought...

I know this isn't for everyone...

I've owned a couple LP's.
When I bought the one I have now, I ordered it.
But I went thru Wildwood after reading about them.

Called them and inquired about one they had.
Great conversation and the guitar is perfect.

Id rather blindly order from a store that picks their LP's than order from GC that gets a lot of them in "lots"

As much as the idea of a jaunt to Nashville sounds good, problem for me is it’s a 3hr drive and I wouldn’t be good for driving back at night after a long day. Wouldn’t want to pay for a hotel. Sounds lame, I know but it is what it is. The LP thing is just a want, not a need. I’ll bide my time. Just sold a guitar but I think I’ll put funds towards a house gun for now. 🤷‍♂️
…..probably blasphemy but what I really should be getting is a Strat to round out the Gibson’s I already have.
