My new guitar came today, but it's been a high of 20°F the whole journey. I let the box acclimate to my house for a few hours, but I don't want to handle the guitar until it thaws out. I had to leave and go do some errands, so at least that'll keep me busy for a bit.

Staring at the case of my new guitar us torture. How long do you guys let your guitars acclimate from below freezing before you fondle them?

Bro a few years back I had my BC Rich custom shop Bich en route here in single digit temps. Got it re routed to the Fedex place and picked it up after work. The case was still cold AF in my house. Didn't open that case for 2 days. It was worth it. Be strong😂

Thanks! It kills for sure, most I ever spent on a fiddle.

That guitar is fuckin sick man, grats
Thanks again. Btw it's a used '06. Guy barely played it. He was in the very first incarnation of Absu, before their debut album. So I got it from a real metalhead, not some instagrammer😂

isn't weird how you can just tell when a guitar is used for the force of good rather than gay evil?

You posted that pic, and it just struck me immediately that no one has ever played neo-soul or john mayer on it before. It's...clean. Pure.

An instrument made for playing music that isn't lame and gay.

Like the aesthetics scare away faggots.

I waited a few hours and it was fine. I didn't have a problem with my basses when they were in the trailer for a day in the winter. Really, it just needed to get above freezing. I've definitely played shows where the instruments were still cold from the trip, and I was more worried about the tuning stability than the finish.

Here it is all polished up. I still need to finish a setup, but it's pretty close. I'll see where the neck settles tomorrow. View attachment 428071

Was this the one where the guy had it listed for like a grand more than it was worth, and constantly turned down your (reasonable) offers? The small builder?

How is it? Looks great

Yeah. I'll go dump some pics on that thread.

It's great. I'm still messing with the setup a bit. I need to let it settle and come back at it tomorrow, but I'm impatient. It plays as well as the other two Jarretts I have, but it's way more of a Les Paul. The neck is beefy, and the fretboard was thirsty. I'm digging it so far.

I have a temperature controlled "chamber" that I put my guitars in after shipping for 48 hours. I have a chimp named "F Sharp" that guards the area to insure nobody plays a guitar until it is ready.

All joking aside, when I was stationed in Hawaii, I got a Gibson Gothic Explorer. The delivery driver left it leaned against my carport on base, box just baking in the Sun. I was like wtf? Thankfully between the box and case, it was fine.

I never had to deal with low temps. I'm usually on the opposite end where a guitar sits in a hot 90-100+ degree truck. We have excessive humidity most of the time too. I'll typically give a an hour or two for it to acclimate to my house before doing anything. After that I'm not too worried about it.

My biggest thing is waiting to do a full setup. It usually takes about a week for everything to mostly stop moving where I can start rough adjusting things.

I give it 24 hours to acclimate; to be on the safe side.
