Tried Dunlop Jazz III picks for the first time in 47 years of playing

I've been playing guitar for 47 years.
For quite a while i have been using Cool Picks 1.5 thickness
Before that I used standard Fender Heavy picks, I hated them.
I liked the Cool Picks because they were smaller and had a textured grip.

Today I bought 4 different varieties of Dunlop Jazz III picks 1.38 thickness.
I only tried the standard red nylon 1.38s first.
Wow, they are even smaller than the Cool Picks.
I instantly liked them.

I also ordered maxx grips, stiffos, and rock nylon versions of the Jazz III.
I will try all of them, but I really like the red nylon.

One benefit was they are a much quieter pick.
When I would make my YouTube videos people kept commenting on how they could hear the pick hitting the strings with the Cool Picks, I think the Jazz III will solve this problem.
Plus, they make my tone warmer, less Bright, for the better.

I recently went down a rabbit hole of different picks. I found some were easier to hold loosely, but were too bright, while others were harder to hold, but dampened some of the pick attack. The material and thickness matters IMO. I came back to the black jazz III, whatever material they are, unless I want a bit brighter where I prefer the red.

Jazz IIIs are the ultimate pick, welcome to the brotherhood.
Yep. Takes a second to get used to the size; but the precision is incredible. Normal size picks feel like playing with a Pringle chip now

I will try some of the others I ordered today.
Once I find my favorite I will order 24 of them.
I ordered packs of six of each to try them out.

The red are so much less bright than my previous Cool Picks, I can't wait to try the back.

Exactly...
When I went guitar shopping I forgot a pick, they gave me a Dunlop Smooth Tortex regular size, it was like holding a Regular Potato chip, at least pringles have grip, lol.
The Red Jazz IIIs embossed logo and lettering gave me grip on the pick

I've tried a dozen different picks over the decades. I always go back to the OG Black Nylon Jazz-III.

Not for them riffs. Nothing in this world beats Tortex .88-1.0, either Standart or TIII for that job.

I have been using the Jazz IIIs, Jazz III XLs, and the JP Jazz the last several years. I recently ordered some Tortex 1.14 Jazz IIIs and Tortex/Flex Jazz III XLs to mix it up some, and I have been liking those since they are a little thinner, but still pretty thick.

I can't really decide which one I like better, so I just switch between them.

I came around to Jazz iii picks when I found a new teacher and he taught me much lighter techniques with minimal motion.

Primetone Jazz iii are my favorite but they've become expensive! And they're too easy to lose. I wish Primetone came in a brighter color.

I typically just use a white Tortex Jazz iii 1.14mm because they are great and they're easy to find on stage.

The Rock iii is pretty cool because it's just a red Jazz iii with grippy texture and offset right-hand beveled edges. I think it would be more popular if it had a different name.

The Rock III is very good, I have that one in my wallet in case I need one.
I still think my favorite are the Black Stiffos, but it is too early to tell.

I can't decide on a gauge but I have figured out I like the Dunlop Flows the best. RIght now I'm loving the 1.5mm but also like everything down to a .50.

I've setlled in on 1 mm ( flow ) but for me the biggest issue by far was always GRIP. Doesn't matter what the finish was on the pick. Most times of year, they slide around in my fingers and i fight the damn pick. Well enter Gorilla Snot and problem solved. I can finally relax my hand. Tiny little bit every other time i play. Total game changer regardless of the pick .73 all the way up to 1.5

Speaking of grip, the finish on this ESP pick that came with my Edwards V is incredible. Wish more makers would do this...thebone pick i can hold on to without any gorilla snot. Can't really find it anywhere though...came with the guitar from Japan. 60$ for 10 picks on ebay....no thanks

I really wanted to like these. They're just too small for me
I can see them being too small for some people.
I also ordered the Jazz III XLs, I will let you know if they would be any better for people who find regular Jazz IIIs small, but I am good with the regular Jazz IIIs
